According to a statement from lawyer David Lane, Mayumi Heene, 45, will admit a misdemeanour and her husband Richard, 48, a felony.

The stipulated sentences for both are probation, his statement said, with the possibility of up to 60 days in jail for Mrs Heene and up to 90 days for Mr Heene.

They'll probably get no time. Sorry but I think this may send the wrong message. Let's see what they DO get. More program deals, talk show deals etc. I'm sure they'll profit out of it.

Think they should have got this deal going into court.

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden had earlier suggested that the couple could have faced charges of conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor - which carry jail terms of up to six years.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

The dad probably wanted to promote his invention :/ My mom said she saw this family on wife swap and that they obviously were a little off. Have any of you seen this?

I calculated the impossibility of this feat mathmatically and none of the news sources I submitted it to got back to me.  ::)

Now I'm intrigued, Navie.  How big would the balloon have to have been for this story to have been plausible?

Apparently quite a few experts tried to tell the news and police that the balloon couldn't carry a boy of his weight given the specs of the thing, but they were ignored until he was 'found'. After all, why pay attention to what those boring old scientists with their 'facts' and 'calculations' have to say when you've got a 24 hour news cycle to fill?

I wrote out my theory in a blog entry, which was essentially the same info I submitted:

And probably also the fact there was no basket and so if he was inside the balloon he'd pretty soon be dead from the gas!

They also got a FAT bill from the feds for the cost of the rescue, and everyone knows how the feds get when you owe them money.

I saw them on Wife Swap and they were both sooooo weird!

The lady was all, 'Let your children wander freely in the forest.'

Um, I wandered freely in the forests in CO for years.  And it has mountain lions, some of whom did kill children on their own.  Also has plenty of rattlesnakes.

The sad thing is I doubt they've learned a single lesson from all of this.
