I do agree that the stuff at Tesco seems to be very variable.  Sometimes it is good other times quite thin.

But since I have a small fridge I don't feel like I can take up a lot of romm with homemade eggnog and making a small amount at a time seems like a waste of effort, so I go with what I can get.

Double the batch and use an empty milk jug to store it?

Sadly we live in a rented house with the world's smallest fridge that just fits.

My dh likes eggnog, but I am not sure he would be willing to use it on his cornflakes.  Although I am tempted to make him try.

It's ok, I get my fix at Starbucks and I am sure the last thing I need are more high fat diary products.  Although it is getting cold out so maybe I need to add some protective fat.   ;)

Think I am going to have a cholesterol splurge and make some. I t has been decades since I had any.

But looking at the recipes makes me wonder if I am alone as I love eggnogg but without whiskey or bourbon.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

Vanilla eggnog at home is my favorite, but I like it with the alcohol as well.

You're alone on that one [smiley=laugh4.gif]

I made a super quick version this weekend using just eggs, milk, vanilla, nutmeg and bourbon and it worked quite well.

I find it needs a bit of rum for flavouring to make it taste right. I don't like it "boozy," though. I probably need rum extract.

If raw eggs gross you out like they do me, cooked eggnog is just like a thin custard. Come to think of it, I wonder if you could add some milk, nutmeg, and maybe rum/etc to storebought custard and get a decent approximation. Hmmmmmm.

That's an idea. The taste of rum might be quite nice.

I'm ok with raw eggs but your idea sounds like it could work but even if it didn't taste like eggnog, I think it would at least be a nice taste combo.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have a recipe without either raw eggs or booze? I'm not allowed either for medical reasons right now. :(

For the eggs, just do what Elynor suggested - cook the nog until it's a light custard (not thick and properly custardy). As for the booze, you can just leave it out. It should still taste yummy!  :D

Or there are pasteurized eggs that would work and remove the health hazard.

Oh, and if you are cooking it, keep the heat low and make sure you mix all the ingredients well before you put it in the pan, otherwise you have cooked egg white lumps in your nog.  :P
