That is awesome!

We are staying at the Midland Hotel in the city Centre the weekend of the 19 Dec! Its a beautifully old historic building if that interests you.

Lateroooms.com is also a good spot to find last min deals.

Best of luck and have a great time!

Oh my gosh it'd be totally cute to have him go to the bar or lobby, and you could be there like, non-chalantly having a drink or reading the paper or something... just totally blend in and see if he notices you.  That's my opinion.  :)
Yes! you read my mind, that's one of the ideas I had in mind :)...so funny, this type of things always make me feel like I am having my own "romantic movie" moment.
I like that idea too! Once he get's the surprise of seeing you then you should tell him the "package" is in the room and take him on up  ;)
Hahaha, I like "the package" part Jenn!

I only just read this, I stayed at the Beetham Tower for work last year (even though I live right near it...) and it was lovely!!! We ate at Alberts Shed, which is a great people watching place. I have also stayed at the Malmaison, which is reasonable imo, also the Lowry is gorgeous!!! Been to the spa there and visited a friend who was staying there, also the Great John Street Hotel looks fab, and also if you want to travel to Didsbury, the Didsbury looks great!

I finally booked the hotel. It is the Crowne Plaza and I got it for a very good deal as one of my friends who works for IHG gave me a "friends & family" discount rate. Only one month to go :)

Just an update. I didn't go as planned but it was still a surprise. I called him from the hotel later that afternoon, after I had a nap and asked if he would like to have dinner with me....he was like "what?? you are here? and got screaming like a little kid haha, so he met me at the hotel and we went out. It was a great night.
He was the one to surprise me by taking me to Barcelona for my Bday and proposing...Of course I said yes! Very exciting to start this new chapter but nervous at the same time. And thats my update! Thanks everyone for the suggestions and good wishes  :)

Awesome ending!! I was reading this when I was on webcam with my bf last night. I went "aww!" and he asked what it was. So, I read it to him (the bit about the surprise and proposal!) and smiled saying "isn't that sweet??" We're meeting up for a long weekend in Madrid over Valentine's Day weekend. Just a little hint! LOL (Not that I expect anything, but it can't hurt to let him know I do find that stuff romantic.. for future reference!) Congratulations to you two!!
