Kraft Miracle Whip
« on: August 01, 2004, 06:53:47 PM »
Hi,

Have only just found this forum and searched through the food pages first, naturally!!

Has anyone found Kraft Miracle Whip in any UK stores, my ration is running out from the States and all I can really find is Hellman's products which are awful!! :P

Thanks
Dee

Never seen it either.  I'm also a die-hard Miracle Whip fan, but since it was so expensive to import, I've learned to like mayo.  :( :( :( :(

Two things come to mind here--

1st, you can easily "make" miricle whip by adding vinegar and sugar to the mayo...it may take a couple tries to get the ratio down, but it should be fine

2nd, I think that the UK "Salad Dressing" would be a pretty close substitue...not sure.

I'm not a miricle whip fan myself, so I can't help any further, but I will certainly wish you luck.  I know how hard it is to use "subsitutes" or to go without something you really do love...

Close, but no cigar, IMHO.  But that's just me.   :o

i THINK i saw it at that deli in Hampstead, see my post from a few days ago - you can order online from them too. Anyway they claim to be able to get anything you want from the US so might be worth a try

You can order it here from one of the American Food websites:

www.cybercandy.co.uk

www.skyco.uk.com

You can also make it. I found this recipe online:

Miracle Whip
4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons dry mustard
6 tablespoons vinegar
3 cups vegetable oil
3 tablespoons flour or cornstarch
1 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 tablespoon salt

With mixer blend egg yolks, salt, sugar and 2 tablespoons of the vinegar. Very slowly add 1 cup of the oil, a few drops at a time, and mix thoroughly. Add remaining oil a little faster, but be careful to blend each addition before adding more oil. When all oil has been added, add remaining 4 tablespoons vinegar.

Put remaining ingredients in a saucepan and cook to a smooth paste. Add this hot mixture to the mayonnaise and blend well. Pour into a container and cool in the refrigerator.

Yields slightly more than 1 quart.

I haven't tried this recipe myself, so I can't say if it's good or not. But as a fellow Miracle Whip lover, I know what it's like to crave it! Good luck!

I've tried to make the clone Miracle Whip, but I must be doing something wrong. Within 24 hours of sitting in my fridge, the oil had separated!!!!!!! ugh

I just get mine when I or someone else goes home or order from cybercandy when I'm desperate. Given I'm the only one who eats it........its mine, all mine!!!!!! [smiley=evilgrin.gif]

I can't really justify ordering Miracle Whip because I don't eat that many sandwiches.  By the time the jar's half gone, the product is either out of date or looking a bit grotty.   :(

Another slightly sweeter mayo is some of the olive oil based mayos..

not quite miracle whip but worth a go...
