Job offer/taxes?
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:46:24 PM »
hi guys,
I was just offered a job in the UK and have a question re: taxes. I filed for my NI number adn should have it soon (hopefully).  Do taxes come out of your paycheck automatically (if you chose so) similar to the states? What is the percentage approximately? Just want to know what my take home should be.

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, taxes usually (at least everywhere I've worked) are deducted from you pay cheque automatically.  I think the current rate is about 22% of what you earn above the personal allowance, which is about £6,400.  NI contributions are usually deducted from your pay cheque as well.  I've found this site:

to be quite accurate to see what pay is after taxes and NI.  Congratulations on your job offer by the way!!
