DW hasn't been able to find provolone

If you can't find it in the regular grocery shops, try an Italian deli - looks like there's one in Wakefield and some in Sheffield.

We have a couple delis near us in northwest Leeds, but far from you:

I went to a cheese shop in Bristol once and asked if they had provolone. She said why would they sell that when there are so many nice English cheeses.  :-\\\\

I got a similar answer when I asked for Brie in Taunton.

i love provalone, but havent had any luck at sainsburys :(

I have found something like 'steakumms' at Iceland...they're called 'Canadian steaks' and they're £1 and pretty much the same thing? Has anyone else come across them? I think Lidl might have them too, but I'm pretty sure I got them at Iceland. I loved Philly cheeseteaks til I was in Philly this summer and now I'm put off :(. Me and my mate from Glasgow went to a random van to buy one and the guy making them (who had THE greasiest hair I ever saw) made something that sort of resembled a cheesesteak but the cheese (white american cheese - the plastic slices...like kraft?) was pretty awful and the steak was too...maybe I had bad luck? Or maybe that's what they're meant to be like? Not sure haha...but try the 'Canadian steaks' they cook in 1 minute lol

Sainsbury's did sell provolone a year or so back.  They have stopped now, at least in my local they have stopped.

Never saw provolone any where else but specialist cheese shops in London.

What about pepper jack? Do they have that over there?? I love English cheeses and had  great time trying a different one almost everyday when I was there. But nothing beats a good pepper jack!! lol

There is peppered cheese, but it's not monterey jack. I know I saw it in the shops, but I never tried it.

Might as well just open the salt shaker & pour it straight down your throat, because that's all that Cheez Whiz tastes of, to me.

I know. That's why it's so good. :)

Hello all,

Just felt the need to share my JOY with you.  My boyfriend and I were shopping in Makro in Belfast last week and, after so many failed attempts at duplicating a cheesesteak, I stumbled upon a box of the frozen cheesesteak steaks!  They're made by Stateside Diner and are called "sandwich steaks."  They came in a box of 50 and cost about 6 quid.

I have managed to pair these steaks with sliced Tesco edam (very similiar to provolone) and Sainsbury's finger rolls (a bit shorter than the usual steak roll, but not as bready as something like ciabatta).

I know nothing will ever compare to the cheesesteaks I grew up on from pizza shops in PA, but it's a nice little taste of home.

 :)

I do hope you're able to find them!  It was better than Christmas for me.  I just wish our freezer was bigger, I would have made him buy multiple boxes.  I'm TERRIFIED that they're going to disappear!

I was just going to post that. I saw it at the weekend and pointed it out to DW. That and chicken frankfurters.
