We’re wondering if anyone has recently gone through the visa process in NYC.
They now have this “fastrack” online application process as well as an online appointment process.  No walk-ins accepted.

My fiancé and I are getting married September 25 and we are looking to get an appointment for September 28th then we plan on flying to the UK on October 1st.

We are wondering if we can apply using their online “fastrack” system before we get married and set the appointment online at the same time, or…is the online application process for those who already have been married and have their marriage certificate?
We don’t wish to improperly apply for the spousal visa or apply to early or late.  We have tried calling and e-mailing their office but to no avail.

We would appreciate any insightful comments.

Thank you,
Eric

You can make the appointment before you're married, but make sure you give yourselves time to get your marriage certificate.  (Unless you're getting married in a state where where the license becomes the certificate right at the wedding!).   ;D

Go ahead and do the application, etc., online and schedule an appointment when the system will allow you to do so.  The real purpose of the appointment is for them to look at your documentation.  Our "interview" only lasted about 5-10 minutes.

hiya :)
myself and my husband have recently been thru the fast-track process in NYC (we applied in person on april 30th)

My fiancé and I are getting married September 25 and we are looking to get an appointment for September 28th then we plan on flying to the UK on October 1st.

congratulations on the upcoming wedding :)

when i phoned the Consulate's and asked that question (can we apply before we are actually married?) - i was told that it is not recommended that we apply before we are actually wed (as this could give cause to botch the application, as i was told in so many words.) so, personally, based on being told that, i would not recommend applying before you are actually wed.

what sean and i did was, we married (in the UK) on april 16th (this year), and on the same morning (early!!) we booked our NYC appointment that day so we could get an appointment on april 30th. the monday following our wedding, we did our online application. now how long it takes them to process the online application... i phoned the consulate's (i phoned them a few times before we actually made it to NY!) and asked how long it would take and was told a week to 10 days on average.

I don't know about US weddings and when you actually get your wedding certificate.. when we married here (UK), we got our certificate that same day (& any copies we wanted of it were posted to us in a few days time)

We have tried calling and e-mailing their office but to no avail.

i never got an email response, but i did have the best luck getting thru to the consulate's when i called first thing in the morning (as soon as they open.) (they do eventually answer the phone, sometimes it can be a long wait!)

We would appreciate any insightful comments.

i hope this helps some... :) any more questions/concerns, please do post and ask away =)

best wishes Eric...

Did you email them Eric?  I found them to be very helpful when I did my "fastrack" fiance visa.  I didn't have any problems.  I would email them directly and go to the source.  You don't know unless you ask..

Good luck.

Thank you all for your comments.  I just wanted to follow up with this tread incase anyone in the future has a similar situation.

Finally, today we received an e-mail for the British Consulate in NYC.  They stated that we could make the online "fastrack" application at any time since they don't proceed with the application till they receive our supporting documents.

As far as booking an appointment they said we could do so online 2 weeks prior to the date we wish to schedule.

So there we have the answer straight from the British Consulate.

Take care all,
Eric

so glad you heard back from them! :)

(i would suggest printing your email response and taking it along with you when you apply, just in case!  but then again, i have this habit of being over-prepared... i was when we made our application!)

best of luck to you ! look forward to reading your visa experience!

This may just be me being dumb...I wanted going to make an appointment for September, but the system won't let me....can you *only* do it two weeks in advance?
