That's precisely why we did *not* book BA for our Christmas flights, even though for once we could have. Really glad we didn't now.

A big sigh of relief from us as well... Air Canada, how I love you more every day.

Fingers crossed for others...

Same.  The rumors had been swirling when we booked our tickets last month.  Hellooooooooo Virgin.  Also, Virgin had a good upgrade deal for the redeye back.  Woohoo!

One good thing to note is that many of the credit card companies offer refunds on airline tickets if they are not delivered ... I know visa does anyways. You have to however file some paperwork to get it and no one tells you about it...
*Yank or Yankee is one of the lesser derogatory slang terms for any American, whether from New England or not.

*The Oxford English Dictionary states that one of the earliest theories on the word derivation is from the Cherokee word "eankke" for coward as applied to the residents of New England.

You don't hear me calling you a bloody brit, so don't call me a yank!

I'm flying Air Canada, too, next Tuesday - I'd rather spend five and a half hours in Toronto than not fly at all! :)

How does that work with an e-ticket as most flights are done these days?

On a side note, we'll never fly BA...they lost DH's bags too many times in the past (at least one each time he flew with them).

Yep, us too. Sadly we won't risk booking BA around the holidays, as this happens too often.

I'm booked on BA as it was the cheapest option (yes it actually was! lol) and they have the only direct flight to Phoenix from the UK. I'm meant to fly out on 24 Dec, getting there in time for Christmas Eve dinner with my family who are all flying in from everywhere, especially as it could be the last Christmas we're all together :( I'm hoping the strike will be avoided or I can get rebooked the day before on another airline but its looking unlikely :( Arrggg!

That did cross my mind! That would be fine, or even into LAX on American or Virgin. Apparently, BA has to announce it is definitely cancelling the flight (which apparently is meant to come in the next 24hrs) before they offer alternatives or refunds. It's crazy, economy flights on my dates are now over £1400 and I paid about £470, yikes! But the 2007 strike was called off at the last minute, I'm hoping and praying this will be a similar situation. To be honest, I'm feeling a bit peaceful about it all and not worrying yet lol. If I do get rerouted through Vegas, I am definitely going to try to have a night there, I won $15.60 this summer! :o

yikes - im one of the unlucky few that didnt think twice about flying BA :( the tickets were a great price and i honestly haven't heard anything about the possibility of a stike (i should have done my research!) Awww im really hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that it all gets resolved with everyone being able to reach their familes and loved ones for christmas!

jdawg - im in the exact same situation - and thank you for writing such a great post - amidst my worrying and stress i couldnt help but smile at your optimism :) so therefore i'll add to it and hope that you have a wonderful flight and hope i will make it on my flight from NY to London without any shananigans from the airline!!!!

I've been in such great spirits and have been so happy that only ten days from now i will be spending my very first christmas with my amazing boyfriend - and now i can't sleep and i'm stressing out....argh! All i want for christmas is no airline strikes...

The worst is that all i just want to call my boyfriend and talk it out with him but its 4:41am there now and i was feeling so lonely but im so glad i found this post - thank you MeShell for writing it!

I did find this just in case anyone wanted more info:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/news/article6956279.ece

So far passengers are being told to hold off making changes to their tickets....i did spend some time on www.kayak.com looking around and there are still tickets available for somewhat reasonable amount...

Screenshots or it didn't happen! lol  ;D

This is affecting us at Amex as cardholders are calling in having booked their BA flights on their BA amex cards.  Nothing we can do Im afraid, but if its any consolation to anyone flying we here dont believe the strike will go forward, it would cost BA too much money.... and possibly a lot of loyalty as well.
