I'm most definitely Mummy, with an accent on the Manc. The kid decided for himself, as this is what his peers call their Mothers. Its okay with me! So long as he still gives me lots of hugs and kisses and says I am the best, its all good!

Roisin used to call me 'Bubby' for a while. :D

Struan uses 'Mama' just now.

But the girls call me 'Mummy'.

Interestingly, all of my dad's sisters referred to their mother as 'mumma' and they're all Americans!  My own American children sometimes called me mummy, mumma, mommy, it came out in all different sorts of ways, and they were born and raised in the US.  I always called my British mom - mom!  And still do.  My own personal preference is a word that starts with 'm'. ;)  My English cousin has always referred to her parents, from about the age of 6 or 7, by their first names...to each his own, but that wouldn't have suited me at all.

My mother (mum) called her mother "Ma" but absolutely detested being called that herself. I remember as a child buying mother's day cards with the wording "Mom" of "Mommy" on them and I thought that was how you spelled "Mum"!
On the subject of kids calling parents what they want, I never called my father "Dad" or any other traditional name.  He was "A.P." or "Arnie". After all, that's what my mother called him. But then my grandmother made me very self-conscious of this as I got older, so I tended not to call him anything.

Don't have any of my own yet, but DSS occasionally refers to me as "Mummy Eya" or just "Eya" (he wasn't able to say Julia when we first met so he just skipped the "Jul." Now he can say Julia, but the Eya thing has stuck. ;)) He calls his own mother Mummy, even though everyone else I know around here refers to their mother as their Mam. I call DH's Mam his "mom" because when I try to say Mam it never comes out right. I guess it's somewhere between Ma'am and Mom, but somehow I just can't work it out.  ;)

I imagine if we had one of our own, I would be Mama or Mommy until he or she was a bit older and then they would probably call me Mam just like all the other kids call their mothers around here. They do make cards with Mam on them up in this area.  :) Anyway, it's closer to Mom than Mum, so I like it better.

At school they called their mother or father whatever the local term was. But at home, when addressing their parent, they used the word their language or parent preferred.

Yep! My mother has always been Mummy (still is!), despite her children growing up in the US.  I don't think I ever used Mom- when I lived in the States I was more likely to use "my mother" when talking to non-family members, and now that I'm in England I generally use Mum when talking about her to a third party (and it was a relief to be able to do so without sounding strange!)

Closer towards Mother's Day Tatty bears (the little stuffed ones) come in every type of Mum, Mummy, Mam, Grandma, Granny, Nan under the Sun (except Mom - that I've seen).   ;D

Another Mum/Mummy here.  ;D

My Mom, after changing her mind a million times, decided she wanted to be called Grammy (the one freakin permutation of Grandma/Gran/Granny/Nana/Nan/Nanna/Nanny I haven't seen on a card - not even at Clinton's and they have almost everything!) ::)

I'm still "Mom" most of the time.  Only occasionally "Mum", and it's usually when they are speaking about me to another child eg "My mum is collecting me."

My MIL is called 'Grammy' by our niece (my SIL's daughter).  Why, I have no clue.   ::)

My mother considered several alternatives but ended up as "Grammy".  MIL decided she wanted to be "Grandma", which struck me as odd as it does not seem like a typically British designation. But what the hey.
