My husband just called and asked me if my license said anything like "international" or "usa" on it. It is an Illinois license and I told him that is all it says. We just want to make sure that is literally all I need to legally drive here. Would there be anywhere on my license that would mean anything to the insurance agents over here? For instance, the front says "type: COR" and "class: D".  The back says "class: Single Veh GVWR 16000 or Less Except Cycles".  I am not sure what any of this means. We just want to be sure everything on my license is legit for me to drive here. I know some insurance agents are saying they won't insure American licenses.

A valid US license from any state is all you need to drive in the UK - it doesn't need to say international on it.  :)  But please be aware that it's only good for 12 months. After you've been in the UK for 12 months, you are no longer allowed to drive on your US license. If you're having difficulty finding insurance, please get in touch with a broker.

Thank you. Yes, we know I can only drive here for one year. I think my husband just wanted to double check before we call a broker back. I am actually able to get the no claims bonus through one agency because of my record in America. I just need my most recent broker to write a later stating I've had no claims in America for the past 5 years.

I currently live in Washington State.  We are able to get "international" or advanced drivers licenses that allow us to be expedited through the border into Canada.  That is it's only purpose.  Follow the advise from chary.
Awesome advise about the insurance reference!  I will DEFINITELY get my agent to give me his reference!
hope it all works out...
