Your Top 5 of 2009
« on: December 18, 2009, 11:20:27 AM »
So, there was a thread on this last year, and since I have so many good things to list this year, I couldn't wait to start one up for this year!

1. Passed my driving test! Woohoo!!!  ;D (You guys are gonna get sick of my bragging soon!  :P)
2. Went to Greece with my husband, it was beautiful!
3. Best friend came to visit and we went to Edinburgh for a weekend with her and had a blast!
4. Got to spend Thanksgiving with my family and friends. I didn't really realise how much I had missed them all.
5. Found out our jobs were safe in the beginning of the year and moved into our new house next door to the old one (ok, that's two, but they sort of went together!)

6. (OK, this one is cheating, but, I have to add it....) We adopted our cat, Alex, and I love him so much!  :-*

1. Got married to my husband, traditional wedding style with our loved ones.
2. Went hiking in the rainforest in Costa Rica, a honeymoon my DH completely planned as a surprise, I didn't find out til the plane was in the air.
3. My close uni friends from Europe came over a few weeks surrounding the wedding, I haven't seen them in over 2 years and was nice to see them explore the states.
4. Moving back to London in a flat of our own again!
5. My best friend and I in the States spending so much time together, going on mini trips and just everything this past year (we have been friends since we were wee ones)

*I hear you on thanksgiving dear, glad to hear you had such a nice time

1.  We got married! And it was exactly as I'd imagined!

2.  So many of my friends from the UK and US came to the wedding, and it was incredible to spend time with them all - but especially those from the US, since I see them so rarely. I hadn't seen my two besties from the US for three years!

3.  A honeymoon week in a castle! Not only that, but my friends were with us! That's the best honeymoon of all. We have the rest of our lives to be alone, so it was great to share that week with people we love.

4.  We moved into our new house!

5.  I'm just happy we're both healthy and OK after a year that included some fabulous things (see above) and some really crap things (my FIL dying and DH's cat dying).

Jewlz, why is adopting Alex cheating?? Duh. Never mind. I get it.  [smiley=dunce.gif]

1)Getting my ILR
2)We got our own flat
3)My step-mom pulling through from having sepsis
4) Being "reunited" with long lost family (not in person yet)
5) This was technically last year, but Mr A's job.  He's transitioned well to the career switch back into education from forensics.

1. I'm still alive

I'm sorry, but this is the only positive thing to happen to me in an otherwise shitty, shitty year. 2009 sucked hardcore, bring on 2010.
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

Obviously I don't know exactly what you mean, but I feel similar. Most of 2009 was kind of a blur, honestly. Had it not been for this amazing move to England, moving in with DBF after a 2-year LDR, and starting this awesome master's programme, it would have been a kinda sh*t year. I lost a good friend to breast cancer in the spring, and my stepdad was diagnosed with colon cancer in January and died in September. The rest of the time I just spent waiting to move. Granted, I have amazing friends, lived in one of the most beautiful places in the world (Maine), and spent a lot of time on the beach, but I really felt like I was in a holding pattern until August. But since August, here are the highlights:

1. I moved to England!
2. I started an awesome master's programme.
3. We went on an amazing holiday in Bamburgh.
4. My mom's coming for Christmas.
5. I met some amazing friends in England. :D

Happy New Year everyone!

oh love, but 2009 is nearly over and I hope 2010 will be so much better, you'll be better and wedding! :)

Mine :

1. Our new Flat, love it up :)
2. My new Job and I have suddenly clicked, about 4 months ago, and it was all just me and some lack of confidence, I was always good at the job I just never believed I was, always the first person to put myself down - Now I feel like I'm sailing through, like I always was, I just believe people when they say I'm doing well now.
3. Amsterdam and NYC and all my amazing trips this year.
4. Financially we're doing so much better this year, it took some effort to budget and sort our finances out, but it feels really good.
5. Texas in a week or so! Can't wait to get out there.

And also I'll add the stuff I'm looking forward to in 2010

1. DB graduating! Can't wait!
2. This game releasing - Where is this job going to take me next? :D
3. Wedding oh wedding, if we ever sort out all the family trauma and set a date ???
4. Travel! I have a wedding in Seattle to attend, and I have an ambition to see the last space shuttle launch in September
5. Moving again! As much as I love this flat, time to find something new and with a little more room, excited :D

Great idea, cheesebiscuit!  I will do both:

2009:

- after a difficult time, finding out I'm expecting and all is going smoothly with no morning sickness or other major pregnancy complaints

- starting my new job and liking it quite a bit, plus liking my coworkers

- doing very well with our savings plan...could have been higher but not bad at all...plus we bought and paid for our car

- taking lovely trips like Santa Monica, Cape Cod, Boston, NYC, London, Paris, Provence...and getting to see my lovely girlies in the UK!

- spending even more time with my family on the East coast and my immediate family in Chicago thanks to living here...and learning the good bits of New Haven and the surrounding area

2010:

- obviously the biggest is meeting our little one in June!

- DH's job situation will hopefully be settled in one way or another

- hoping we will buy a house and be even more settled

- continuing the savings plan and being even more strict now that the little one is arriving

- doing an even better job at work

Like SP, though for different reasons, 2009 has been a total crap year for me and I can't wait to see the back end of it.

I'm also having to learn to tone down my overly rose-tinted expectations so I'll just say that I'm optimistic that 2010 will be much better. :)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

OK, good plan, I will add "looking forward to in 2010" list:

1. Driving myself somewhere all on my own, at long last.  ;D
2. My best friend possibly coming for another visit (and talk of a weekend in Paris!)
3. Getting to know my new girlfriends a lot better and hanging out more since I will be able to drive to them!
4. My parents, grandma, and great aunt are planning a trip to visit us in September!
5. Hopefully taking a short holiday (long weekend) with DSS to Spain

Oh, and applying for my ILR in June...I'm sure it will be stressful, but I'm looking forward to (hopefully) getting the visa and moving forward in the process!

Top 5 of 2009
I had a quite difficult first half of this year, so all of my things happened in the last 6 months...
1. Getting Married
2. Moving to England
3. Finding a job within 4 weeks of moving
4. Spending a lot of time with friends and family before leaving
5. Being reuited with my dog when she joined me in England!

Looking forward in 2010
1. Going home to visit my friends and family in February
2. My BFF coming to visit me!
3. Learning to drive and regaining independence  :-\\\\
4. Finding some like-minded people to befriend (fingers crossed)
5. Hoping to enjoy my job a bit more after this initial learning period.

Here's to everyone being full of joy and happiness in 2010!
