Are you giving any of your trades people a Christmas Box?
« on: December 22, 2009, 06:19:38 PM »
I think you give a Christmas Box (usually money) to the postman, dustman(garbage collector), newspaper delivery person, window cleaner and hairdresser. Did I miss anyone?

What is the usual amount that you give?

This is a searching question because I don't know what is the 'done thing' now in the UK.

Any comments?

We're giving our binmen some money since we continually put out the wrong bin (refuse vs recycle), but they always walk up the drive and get the correct one even though its entirely our fault that the wrong bin was made available.  Good men!

Don't tell Mrs R. or she will change occupations. She hates to see those things go to waste! ;D

We were just wondering this same thing.  Our former home was in a studenty area, so nobody bothered stopping, but now we have a house in a small village and are assuming we'll see them this year.  We don't know what we should be doing.  We aren't drinkers and wouldn't know what to buy if we were getting alcohol, so money or something else would be a better idea for us.  What is usually done?

That is tip worthy.

We tip our milkman but everyone else is so anonymous and I wouldn't even know how to go about tipping our postman. I never see him.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.
