taking a cat to America - quarantine?
« on: December 30, 2009, 08:43:27 PM »
Hi guys. Does anyone know what the current status of taking UK cats to America is? We are nowhere near ready to move, but I had previously read that cats have to stay in quarantine for a number of months unless the cat is a show cat. This seemed kind of arbitrary to me, but if we can avoid that by entering Kitty Bizzle in cat shows, then she will become a show cat! Any thoughts?

It may be a state thing and not a federal thing...we'd be aiming for Indiana...

I don't think there are any restrictions at all! Unless you're going to Hawaii. A year ago I brought my 3 cats to Maryland from the UK with no problems. You do have to have them certified fit to fly/healthy, but that's about all. There are some differences from state to state but I've yet to hear of a quarantine for the mainland.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Thanks, that's good to know!

Awesome. I've told K-Biz the good news, but she seemed unimpressed :)

Maybe she really wanted to be a show cat.

Hey, that's a good point, maybe she did. She has been gone a lot lately. Maybe she secretly attended the cat show at the NEC and has been getting modelling work since then, without telling us. If that's the case I will expect a contribution to the rent.
