Despite living in Chicago for, well, forever, the Hubs wants to take a trip to a warm locale when our kids (3 & 5) are on half-term break in February.

Because of the kids, we don't want to take an 8 hour flight, so the Caribbean is out.
Is there anywhere near that is warm in February?

My SIL went to Egypt on half term last year.  She loved it and came home nice and tan!

Canary Islands? e.g. Tenerife. Just a 3 hour or so flight from the UK (21c today)

The south of France is nice in Feb. Menton in particular. Also we like Tarifa in Spain.

I second Egypt! We went in October half term and the family with kids were well looked after....the all inclusive option was a good buy to all the people we chatted with..

Ghana! Beautiful beaches and safer than Egypt.

Tenerife, southern resorts will be hotter but can attract boozy brits so nightlife can be bad. I reccomend north of the island Puerto de la cruz

This part of the island (north of the volcano) has it's own microclimate, more green and tropical than the arid south and with black sand beaches. Its gets a little less sunshine but is much more family friendly, great restaurants and relaxed nightlife.

Make sure you take your malaria pills if you go to Ghana! (A friend ended up with malaria when she did an exchange in Ghana.)

Oh yes you need malaria pills & you also need a load of shots if you go anywhere in Africa, including Egypt.

Hmmn, I had Tetanus, Hep B and something else  for Egypt. I didn't go to Sharm though ... maybe because it's more resort-y your GP didn't think the jabs were  necessary? For other parts of Africa I also had a yellow fever jab and TB (because the one I'd had as a teen had worn off).
