Snow Report 2010
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:07:37 PM »
Here we go again. Met Office forecasting "heavy" snow from 6pm in Buckinghamshire and "very heavy" in Oxfordshire. Considering I live on the border, I'm wondering which pertains.... We've had a few fluffy flakes in High Wycombe and a bit on the drive in, but that's it so far.... I'm trying to plot the most sensible time to leave the office as last time this happened people got stuck!

And whatever you do, please don't send any of that snow down to Cornwall!

Over a foot on the ground here for a few weeks, as its not got above freezing in all that time, and snowing heavy again today.  More up in the hills.

This is it where we live, pretty much. Well, we are right on the coast, so we have about half a foot of snow in our village, but we are snowed in here because if you go 2 miles further inland, there is over a foot of snow and many of the roads are inpassable. We managed to make it to the grocery shop in a nearby village over the weekend, but the car park was like the Arctic tundra - they didn't plow it or anything, so people were just getting stuck parking in there. It was ridiculous. Fortunately we only work a mile from our house and have been able to "slide" into work much easier than our colleagues. A few of them only live a few miles away and were snowed in. Our managing director had to walk to the nearest street that could be driven on and call a taxi since his car and driveway was buried in snow!

We're being told "severe heavy snow" in Surrey will begin this evening and through the night.  I suggested to my boss that we leave at the first sign of snowfall to avoid a repeat of the nightmare commute last time it snowed and he laughed in my face :(

Met office is predicting 15cm of snow and "wide disruption of travel".  Should be fun tomorrow morning  :-\\\\

I am in South Manchester and I do not dare try to get to work! My next door neighbour took his car out of the driveway and was stuck in the snow in a second. I am working from home today and will try again tomorrow! Thank goodness I chose Childcare I can walk to, we took my son out to the childminders house on foot this morning! We have about 7 inches here and its still snowing!!!

It's snowing now in central Somerset, but melting pretty much as soon as it hits the ground.  We're supposed to get heavy snow at about 6 this evening, but I won't be holding my breath.  Last year it seemed like the entire country was snowed over except our village--my husband works 20 miles away and they had snow there, but not here :(  So we'll see.  The forecasts are certainly dire.  DH's boss has even said that they might be working from home tomorrow.

Sigh. No, I don't think you need to worry too much. Truth be known, I'm kinda tired of it now. A couple of times a year, fine. Consistently for weeks starting in December? Not so much.

Heavy snow forcasted for Hants as well.   [smiley=end.gif]

I'm on skype with DH-he usually leaves London at 18:50 and walks through our door around 20:30.  I'm hoping he can leave a bit early.
A few schools have already closed for tomorrow.

I'm in Manchester and walk to work; just as I made it in (basically skiing the whole way!), we were all sent home.  Right now, a couple from the flat below are trying to drive out of our car park.  They've been at it for about two hours and are half-way across.  I really hope it's not important or an emergency, because I doubt they'll make it down the road.

It is still snowing here.  Someone said we've had nearly six inches, as of this morning. If this keeps up, we may have an inadvertent snow week!

It was snowing here in Derby just nw of City Centre when I got up this morning with the muchkin at 8am and it's just stopped in the last hour or so, but I still see the random flake every now and then.

Still no snow here, and I don't think we'll get more than a flurry. But it is bitterly cold. And you know you live in Cornwall when, even with these temps, you see men wearing board shorts at the supermarket!!

They mentioned two schools on Radio Solent...not sure exactly where they are, but they are more than likely in Hants, Dorset, or the IOW.

ETA: They just shut the school that I work at.   :)

It's been snowing here all day.  And it's windy.  And bitterly cold.  They are closing some of the main roads, police escorting on others.  I just want the sun back!
