The long and the short of it
« on: January 07, 2010, 01:41:16 PM »
I was talking to a friend on Facebook yesterday after I showed her some old pictures of my parents, and she thought it was funny that my mother was so much taller than my father. My mother was (at her tallest) about 5'8" and my father is about my height - 5'4" to 5'5". Is that odd? It never struck me as odd, but then I grew up with them and never gave it a thought.

Since I'm not very tall, judging the height of my potential partners has never really been an issue - and DH is just a smidge under 6'. I did once go out with a guy who was 6'10" and that was weird, though!

What do you think?

I'm 5'2" and the husband is about 6'2" but I never notice it until I see a picture of us together and then I think he's really tall.  At least my girls got some height from him.

I'm 5'0'' and DH is 6'0''.  I never think about it either until someone says, 'Wow, your husband is so tall!'.  And I'm like, no, he's not; it's just that I'm so short.  :P

My mom and dad were about the same height - 5'6".

Well I'm 5'7" and dh is 6' so I'm not one to talk about extreme differences! But I don't think it's particularly odd. I do however have a good friend who would never even entertain the idea of dating someone shorter than her, so I suppose it is an issue, maybe particularly for tall women?

It's hard to picture your parents being any other way than how they are / were.

I'm 5'2" so every guy I ever went out with was taller than me.  My hubby is a very average 5'9", but to me he seems sort of tall because I'm so short.  I had a crush on a guy who was 6'7" and that was extremely tall to me, I can't even imagine 6'10" it's almost incredible!

Poor thing.  The taller they are, the harder they fall.  Or something like that!

LOL

I don't think its weird chary...People of all sizes date and get married then again I am 5'6 (although last month my doctor told me I was 5'5 - liar) I haven't shrunk and DH is 5'10 so he is taller but never thought much about it.

I did date guys my height but didn't dump them because of height.

I'm just under 5'1" and DH is 6'. I did date a guy once who was probably only an inch or so taller than me and it was just too short. I'm not used to being able to look people straight in the eye! I remember a long time ago my mother (who is 5'2") saying that she hoped we married tall guys to add a bit of height to the family! I'm not sure if that was always nagging at my subconscious while I was dating!  :P

I have some girlfriends who are 6 feet tall and probably wish there was less of a shortage of guys this height to make them feel shorter!  :) Yeah, it would be WAY too tall for me. I'm only 5' tall, hubby is 6'2". I've always liked tall guys. Most every boyfriend I have had has been taller than 6', but more than 6'5" is like the land of the giants.  :P I don't think it's too weird for a taller woman to marry a shorter guy. But I would never have dated someone my own size.  :P

:D  I was nuts about this 6'7" guy.  Glad hubby is shorter than that--just right for me!

I'm 5'10 and would never feel comfortable with someone shorter. I know that's shallow, but I would always feel weird. It's never been an issue though. All my BFs have been 5'11 or taller.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
