How long was your wife in the UK?  Did she do anything else to prove her residency?  Did you write anything fancy in your cover letter?

She was in the UK for 7 months with the visa, 13 months if you include the 6 months as a visitor without her visa.

She didn't do anything else to prove her residency,(other than have an address in the UK). We did have to list my wife's residence for the last 5 years on the Biographic Information, but we included the six months she was here as a visitor without a visa.

Didn't write anying fancy in the cover letter!

You may have to explain why she was here such a short time if they ask, that is the only thing they may question, but Brooke had no problem and she wasn't here all that long.

They are very reasonable people who want to help you out of this little backwater back to the land of the free.

I hope that was a joke.

Hi all,

Looks like we will have to apply for Leave to Remain afterall (the US Consulate in London wont let us apply without it - no exceptions).  So, how do we do it?!

Any further help is appreciated!

Thanks!

S.

Thanks!

I just spoke with the British Consulate in NY (who were very helpful!), and they mentioned that we could possibly go to a Consulate in Europe who *might* process the application for us (instead of going all the way back to the US).  Failing that, we have to find an address in New York's catchment area that we can use so that they will process it (else we'll have to go all the way to California)...  We dont have to actually stay there - just be able to put it on the form so that it gets directed to the correct Consulate!

So, anyone happen to know a Consulate in Europe that might accept us? ;)

Thanks!

S.
