Never heard of it, but it looks really nice.  Out of curiosity what's attracted you to Goodwood if you'll be settling in Sheffield?  Is that near where most family and friends attending the wedding / reception will be?  I only ask 'cause if your DB and friends are in Yorkshire etc you may encounter a lot of people reluctant to travel to West Sussex for a wedding as it's a good 4+ hours drive away (on a good run).  But then again if there's a lot to do in the area it could work as a good mini-break hol for some.

I was wondering the same thing. Surely there are good hotels in Yorkshire?

I've been on the grounds for the Festival of Speed but not to the hotel.  The grounds are lovely but there aren't a lot of great places to stay nearby.  It's a long trek from Sheffield.   :)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Most of the DB's family is from Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. So it would be close to all of them.
From the pictures it looks very lovely. I was thinking of setting up a marquee instead of inside the hotel. But it's just a thought. :)

I have only ever heard great things about Goodwood,  from friends who have been to or worked at weddings there.  There are loads of great venues you could look into if you are trying to keep the wedding in that area. Have you looked into Beaulieu's Domus? They do ceremonies in the 13th century Abbey, and it's really gorgeous around the ruins for photos. It's a bit different, and they do the wedding breakfast in part of the ancient Abbey there as well, it looks a bit like Hogwarts where you have the meal.

You have alot of choice in that area really, even venue's in The New Forest would be good.

Enjoy the planning bit :)

Thanks so much for the advice. It's still awhile off, but I'll look into it :)

I agree with tebs the New Forest is beautiful and very diverse if you don't want to be too close to Portsmouth (but not too far away).   ;)

Is your DB (or his family) a member of any particular church down there?  If so have you considered a wedding there with reception nearby?

Nope, they aren't religious and we'd just being doing a reception there.
I was think Goodwood because of the beautiful grounds as we want it to be outside in a tent. I'll definitely check out New Forest too! Thanks!

If you like / don't mind being on water you may consider looking at booking a charter boat (no clue on cost) near the Isle of Wight as the Needles (site of boat racing every year) and Alum bay (all the coloured sand) are beautiful.  There're several ports - Portsmouth and Lymington included that have ferries to the Isle of Wight that might have charter boats to host your reception.

Just an idea.   ;)

A boat sounds like fun, but if the weather is bad, it sort of would put a damper on things.  I have a wedding at Portland Castle this summer, and the couple are going to arrive there by boat,  which I will be riding with them. I am hoping the weather is good, fingers crossed.

I would also look into perhaps a Tithe Barn type of place.

Once you guys nail down a date and venue, I'd love to be considered to be your photographer, I have a feeling whatever you guys do, it's going to be a fun day :)
