I'm a fiddle player, and I've been messing around with a mandolin that a friend has loaned me.

I'm a wannabe.  ;) I've always, always wanted to play acoustic guitar (like folk-style and classical Spanish type stuff). I hope to start lessons this year. I have a few phone numbers, but I've been shy of calling them yet, and I don't really know if I can afford it, but I'm going to find out soon, I think!  :D

I took piano lessons when I was a kid and hated it.  I switched to troubadour harp (and after that concert harp) when I was 10, had a wonderful teacher, and loved it.  I was ok about performing with other musicians at weddings and so forth, but I really disliked performing on my own or in competitions so eventually gave it up.  I kind of wish I still had my harp so I could play for myself.

I played trumpet for 6 years wayyy back in my school days. My son plays trumpet now and so I pick his up every now and then and play a bit. And yes, it does sound like it's been years since I played. :P He's amazed that I still remember all the notes/valve positions, how to read the music, etc.

Cool, brin!  What type of music do you play on fiddle?  My hubby has been learning mandolin (he's normally a guitarist), and it's cool 'cause I can just tell him which fingers where, when he's trying to figure out a tune that I already know on the fiddle.

Why did I not know this?!  You can come to my place and play my harp *anytime*!  (Not a concert harp, but I'm sure you'll manage!)

In school, I was a soprano (occasionally a soloist) & I played the alto saxophone for jazz band (hated marching band).

Now I think I would do well to play the kazoo or some spoons...maybe a jug.  :D

I'd like to learn how to play acoustic guitar.

Hrm... lesse.  I played French Horn through most of my school years, and had to get semi-decent on piano as part of my high school education (went to a performing arts school - Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX).  I taught myself bits of flute and guitar over the years, but I'm not proficient at anything anymore - my fingers are pretty crap, and my teeth//lack of teeth situation makes playing a wind instrument problematic at best.  I -can- still sing a bit, though!

Otherwise, I DJ on a web-based radio station under the name of Lillith, though I'm currently on hiatus to focus on my newborn daughter. :)

I can rock a kazoo.  ;D I also frequently play harmonica, but badly. Mostly to entertain my stepson, along with my horrible singing.  :P

Andee - I play traditional Scottish music. I've never played guitar so the mandolin is taking some getting used to, but like you say, at least I know where to put my fingers!

I played the cello for 20 years, but haven't played in a long while. My cello didn't make the move to the UK, sadly (I sold it before I moved). I'd like to learn a new instrument, but I'm not sure what. Something I can play in a group, I think.
