Yay for more musicially talented folks peeking out!!! :) :) :)

2) a Baroque orchestra starting up. I have always been a Bach devotee, so this was perfect for me, and I've been playing in that group for the last year and a half.

That's really fun. I love the viola- such a gorgeous tone!

Ha, we should start a UKY band/orchestra/choral group.  Might sound a bit odd though [smiley=mad.gif] thanks to our diversity

It would be insane (in a good way though)!

Another thread just reminded me to bump this  ;D

I seem to get myself more and more involved in the music community here... I guess it's once your name gets out there (especially in a small place) - you get invited for more and more.

I have such good friends through the music I do- what a fun way to meet people!  :)

My only recording:

Fish Rag

Done on my crappy Fender FR50 resonator.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I missed this thread.
I'm no musician but I've been singing for ages.  Choirs, weddings, etc.  My piano skills are very limited, never had lessons but a friend taught me to play chords just enough that I could fill-in in a pinch.  Or play carols at Christmas.
It broke my heart when I divorced, moved to a small apartment and had to leave my piano and dog behind.   :\\\'(

My son is the talented one in the family.  Too many guitars to count, drums, mandolin, saxaphone, piano, and so on.  He once bought an organ at Goodwill for $5, put it in the basement and, because he was young and on a different schedule, he would sometimes play it at odd hours.  Talk about spooky!!  Waking in the middle of the night to organ music, I kept thinking I'd died and was at my own funeral.   :D

Mainly singing.  Started young in the church choir and then progressed to other choirs.  It's a great way to meet people when you move to a new area - when I moved to Memphis one of the first things I did was join the local community choir.

Currently back in N Yorks and singing in two choirs at the moment.

Trying to teach my little one to play the recorder (to help him learn to read music at the same time) at the moment.  He loves to sing too and is in the school choir.

I played the Virginal when I was young - my Dad was very much into early music!!  [smiley=laugh3.gif] Tried to play the piano and the cello (which was almost as big as me at the time) but the whole instrument thing is too much like hard work - give me the voice that you can take anywhere  :)

2011 has been a great music year for me-
Have played numerous gigs and have several to go- Included in the highlights so far include:
Played several charity gigs for very good causes, including a Rape and Abuse Crisis Centre, Macmillan Nurses, Community Caring Group for carer's holidays, and Maggie's Cancer Centre
Being part of the Scottish Open Festival
Recording at Abbey Road!!!!!
Performing at the Belladrum Music Festival
Plus all the good usual fun gigs, pubs, parties, local events, etc.

Wow, you sure have been busy!!  That is so wonderful you've done all those charity gigs.  And recording at Abbey Road!  Now there's something to always remember.  :)

This thread needed to be bumped, thanks pb!

I'll be posting two little videos of my recent little concert at Kirstall Abbey!  Hubby finally edited them, now he has to send them to me and they can be posted here.

Musician 2011, welcome!  I don't think I've 'met' you before.  What do you play?

Thanks, Andee  :)   I play guitar, just an amateur, mainly took it up to accompany the songs I write.  I used to sing in a choir back in the old days, we sang at Rockefeller Center in New York and another place up there, plus with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as a guest group, but my voice has changed since then (due to illness), so not as good. Thanks for asking. Will look forward to your videos, for sure!
