Pat Robertson, a "Christian".
« on: January 14, 2010, 05:50:39 PM »
Last night I watched the Spanish (RTVE) TV news. They featured footage of the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake. Continental news programs are often less squeamish than (say) UK or US broadcasters when it comes to showing dead bodies, and so there was a (brief, but quite long enough) shot of a little girl aged about 4 lying dead in a gutter. It upset me to see this.

Today I see that this guy called Pat Robertson says that the earthquake was God's judgement on Haiti because years ago "they" made a pact with the devil to free the island from their French colonial masters.

Also Rush Limbaugh is making capital out of it.

Are there no depths so low that people won't sink to them?

I saw that, it's absolutely despicable, I guess it's the only way that some Christians can rationalise such a disaster though to tie in with their beliefs.

Please don't refer to people like that as "christian". As a Christian, that is not acceptable Christian behavior. As I always say, just 'cause you call yourself something, doesn't make it true (in the case of Pat Robertson).

I am not a Christian, and I don't believe in the Devil, but if anyone in this world is doing Satan's work it is this guy.

I honestly think the best thing the world (and especially the media) can do is ignore him and his hateful comments.

Yeah, I think he is sort of like Freddy Kruger.  If people stopped being repulsed of/scared of/believing in/listening to him, he would go away.

But he is a Christian. And, while despicable, it's certainly not the worst thing that's ever been done in the name of Christianity.

I heard about this too.  Repulsive.  How anyone, regardless of their religion or lack of it, can look at the utter devastation of an already poor country and coldheartedly pass judgement on the victims is beyond my ability to comprehend.

I don't understand either, but I have no trouble believing it. Remember those Christian loons who claimed that New Orleans deserved Hurricane Katrina because of the homosexuals??  ::)

Come to think of it, I seem to remember Pat Robertson had something to say back then too ... was it about abortion?

the 'TRUE STORY' part of the statement is just so...UGH. it'd be hilarious if it wasn't infuriating.

Pat Robertson has said, among other things, that if there is a disaster in Dover, Pennsylvania the people there will be ignored by God because they voted out a school board in favor of teaching intelligent design, that the "persecution" suffered by evangelical Christians at the hands of "homosexuals and liberals" is worse than the Holocaust. He really is a piece of work.

Pat Robertson may be a nasty a$$hole, but he is consistent in his a$$holery.  He is not confining his bile to the poor Haitians.  He said that 9/11 was because of America allowing abortions, taking prayer out of school and of course, letting homosexuals to push their "evil" agenda against well, whatever it is that they are working against.   ::)

I have no adequate words to describe what I think of this evil dude.

He's obviously completely deluded. How come he's not in a psychiatric institution?
