He's obviously completely deluded. How come he's not in a psychiatric institution?

I'm not so sure. Wouldn't the DSM-IV class that as Narcissistic Personality Disorder?  ;)

Please don't refer to people like that as "christian". As a Christian, that is not acceptable Christian behavior. As I always say, just 'cause you call yourself something, doesn't make it true (in the case of Pat Robertson).

Well, I wasn't meaning that it was the norm for christians to say things like that, it's only a minority, but I've heard similar. For example I've heard christians say that such natural disasters, acts of god as they are termed, are "gods way of keeping the worlds population in check"!
The only explanation I can think of is that it's how they rationalise such devastating events.

But he is a Christian. And, while despicable, it's certainly not the worst thing that's ever been done in the name of Christianity.

Not to sound argumentative, but doing things in the name of Christianity and BEING a true Christian are two separate things. People use religion (or anything else- politicians, political parties, citizenship of a certain country) for their own agendas all the time.

I just wanted to clarify that! :)

So ... the Crusades? Were those true Christians? I'm just saying that someone can be a "true" Christian and do some pretty awful things, whether they're in the name of their religion or not. If you took the Bible literally (and a lot of these idiots seem to), it would appear to advocate some rather hateful things.

I just found out that my friend's brother (and the friend of my brother) was killed in Haiti.  He was a Lutheran seminary student and the son of two pastors.  His mother is a former bishop.  I have known him since he was eight, and even though I didn't know him well and haven't seen him for years, I remember him as the sweetest, kindest little boy.  He used to counsel my brother through a lot of adolescent angst when they were in high school.

I defy Pat Robertson, or anyone else, to find a better Christian than he was.

Well, I'm not referring to events from hundreds of years ago. Humanity in general has much different ideas about what is right/wrong since the Crusades. I'm thinking more of the modern day events such as the comments made in the thread. I'm not looking for a religion debate. I just wanted to state my feelings on people using "Christianity" as their ticket to say/do whatever their agenda is. People can claim whatever they want to claim, but in the eyes of God (or whatever you (meaning people in general, not you Chary!) believe in) it doesn't necessarily justify those actions/comments or make them Christian.

ETA: And I agree with you about these people taking parts of the Bible that serve their purpose literally! That's probably the root of most of the problems!

my viewpoint about anyones faith is what type of example you set for your god........if you are a christian then the bible speaks of love, kindness, and compassion........its quite obvious that pat robinson is not setting a very good example for christians......i honestly dont put much validity in television ministry......its a business.......he is a business.

I am so sorry this young man was killed in the earthquake.

As for Pat Robertson, he's a poor excuse for a human.  Here's a story about the "pact with the devil" that he cited.  Apparently, it's a legend that has been around for a long time.

On another note, Pat Robertson makes me ill.

Pat Robertson is the kind of low-life who claims that AIDS is God's way of punishing homosexuals. He should not be allowed to open his mouth. Like, ever.  :-X
