I really don't think they will change the formula.  What would be the point?

I was sad to see that job losses are imminent.

Money, money and money!

But they'd lose money in the UK if they changed the formula to a more American type chocolate like Hershey's

should we change that to 'Mexican' chocolate like Hershey?

Hershey moved most of their production to Mexico.

and Kraft is owned by Phillip Morris tobacco.

Bought in 1988 by Philip Morris, which also purchased Nabisco for $19.2bn in 2000 before integrating it into Kraft Foods. (BBC)

Cadbury was already planning to move some of its factories to Poland anyway.  Now Kraft has said they would keep that factory in the UK.  How long that will last is another question, but it isn't as if Cadbury was all sunshine and lollipops.

There would be no point in changing the formula.  As already discussed Dairy Milk doesn't really use that much more chocolate solids compared to US chocolate bars anyway.  That is why France was lobbying for them not to be labelled as chocolate.

The US formula is different from Canada, which is different from Australia, which is different from the UK.  They sell what sells.

Great comment on BBC News this morning from a "food historian" who said "Kraft makes cheese and we don't want out chocolate to get cheesy".

That should be the official slogan

WE DON'T WANT OUR CHOCOLATE TO GET CHEESY!   ;D

Cadbury's chocolate is horrible anyway, it's so sickly.  I hope they won't be moving the manufacturing overseas though, the last thing the UK needs right now is massive job losses.

Yeah, I really recommend people giving up chocolate and sweets for a while then trying a Cadbury chocolate.  It's really enough to make you sick.  British chocolate is much sweeter than even American chocolate.  We're just a bit immune because your tongue gets numb to all that sweetness.

Don't get me wrong, I think Cadbury is better than a lot of American mass produced chocolate.  It's just not a culinary treasure or anything. *ducks*  Never the less, I agree with people saying that it's likely that they won't change a thing with the formulas.
