Lost about what forms I need to file
« on: January 24, 2010, 01:27:10 PM »
If anyone can help I would appreciate it! I moved to the UK on my spousal visa in April 2009. I was working in the US (Arizona) from January through March of 2009 and have been working in the UK since May 2009. So I gather that I will need to file the 1040 and my AZ tax forms as usual, but what additional forms will I need to file for my income while in the UK? I do not have any savings or assets of any great value.

you're right, you do need to file the 1040. Also, there is a part on the form for "foreign earned income" for your uk income. (I use Turbo Tax, which guides you through everything). Since you've already been taxed by the UK on your UK income (I assume), you won't likely be taxed on your UK income by the US.

Maybe some other folks have more specifics.

Thanks. So do I just need to request a statement of earnings from my UK employer for 2009?

Does anyone know if there are any additional forms I will need to fill out? I don't have Turbo Tax so I usually end up doing it the long way :/
