Valentine's Day...
« on: January 27, 2010, 05:22:46 AM »
I know it's a ways off, but what is everyone doing for Valentine's Day?

What are you doing if you are in an LDR? Or what did you do when you were in one?

I'm thinking of going to mymms.com/cupid and doing something like that for DB and sending it to him. After all, he is a chocolate fan.

Oooh, and I really want to see Valentine's Day, but I think I'll have to gather some of my girlfriends for that one.

DH and I boycotted Valentines day last year.  :-[ After 6 years of celebrating online we just couldn't take it anymore... So I worked all day and we just kind of pretended it didn't exist. The year before that we planned a whole meal and cooked the same thing while talking on skype, and then after dinner we watched some movies together online... Glad I don't have to do things like that anymore. :P

This is our first year out of 7 that we get to spend the day together, and we have no idea what to do! I look forward to reading this thread to figure it out. :) Can't decide if we want to stay in (because we do that every night) or go out into the craziness with all the other couples...

I was just thinking about Valentine's Day too...It coincides with Lunar New Year this year so we have a three day weekend which would be nice to do something but dunno what...  ??? My bf isn't really into holidays though but I am hehehe

Over here it's up to girls to do something on Valentine's Day :-\\\\ then they have White Day a month later for the guys to reciprocate and if you are still single by April, they have a Black Day to announce your singledom by eating some noodles in black sauce. The noodles are yummy too!  ;)

Looking forward to hearing what others are gonna do!   [smiley=smitten.gif]
If anyone has any cool arts and crafts ideas for a gift that would be awesome!  [smiley=idea2.gif]

It's just not as big over here. Loads of cards go about, but less on the red roses and having to go out for a meal that night.  In other words, less pressure!

When we were apart, I designed gift vouchers for him in Photoshop with things he could cash in on once we saw each other next (massages, romantic home-cooked meal, and a few, um, more exciting things...) and then I just tied them up with ribbon and sent them to him in a card.  :) We also talked on Skype, but I don't remember doing anything special while on webcam. I was a waitress then, so I was probably working that day, of course.

Last year, we didn't really do anything other than exchange cards and chocolates. I can't remember, sadly. I don't really think of it as a big deal, I guess, since we are together now and get to spend the day together as we normally would. Plus we have a nice home-cooked dinner most nights anyway. I think it's ridiculous how much they charge for flowers and things like that on Valentine's Day. I think it's better and more of a surprise to get flowers or something else nice when it isn't expected or without feeling obligated to do it.

Im anti-valentines day, so we wont be doing anything. When me and my partner first started dating,(which was a couple weeks before valentines day) I told him this and he was happy about it really,.
so hopefully he will not get me any cards, flowers or anything like that, cause im not gonna have anything for him lol.

our "anniversary" is on the 16th of feb, so i will get him something for that, nothing romantic though, just got him customized car mats for his yank car

Well, as it turns out, Valentine's Day is the same weekend as Presidents' Day here in the States and I got offered a free trip to Madrid for the long weekend! (I'm a teacher and a student trip company is having a "sample our tours" weekend!) What this means is, I get to spend it with my bf in Madrid! He's flying down from London for the weekend. :) This is our first Valentines as a couple (we've been friends for a couple of years) so I have NO idea what to do or expect.... I'm definitely going to be doing some lingerie shopping before the trip, though. ;)

Wow, how exciting! ;D I used to dream of flying over to see DH for valentines day (flights are always cheap around that time for some reason) but it was never realistic. Congrats that you get to make it happen!!

Thanks! It just worked out so perfectly! The funny thing is, we already had a visit planned for the following weekend. So I see him the long weekend, we both go home to our respective cities, then he comes the following weekend for 10 day! So we get to spend 3 weekends in a row together! :D Can you tell I'm excited?? lol

That's excellent!!!

Well-  I actually think that day is [smiley=puke.gif] inducing...  But my plans for that weekend are actually from a Christmas pressie that I gave that just happened to work out for being on V-Day weekend so I got to kill 2 birds with one stone...

I've got a long weekend in London, with tickets to Cirque de Soilel, the London Symphony Orchestra (the whole reason its this particular weekend), then lunch at Gordon Ramsay's Claridges- along with the Tate Modern...  I've been to London several times and have yet to make it to the Tate and I love weird, silly modern art!

yay sounds really good.

I don't do Valentines, I'm a bit scroogey at it, and feel like Jewlz, I prefer to do that stuff on random days. I'll probably be working.

On the plus side it's DB's birthday on the 18th and we're going to have a special day out for that! :)

Same thing we always do (Feb 14th is also our 'half anniversary' - 6 months from Aug 14, so that works out kinda nifty!).  We stay in, DH cooks a lovely special meal, we drink champagne & have a decadent chocolate pud!  [smiley=love.gif]

BF's kiddo will coincidentally be away to his aunt's that weekend since he doesn't have school on that Monday.

I don't like to do anything too crazy for Valentine's Day, so I'm thinking some kind of Lush bath and a dinner that involves asparagus and/or broccoli and/or cheese and/or salmon, or really anything that we can't have when the kiddo is around because he doesn't like it.  Oh, and probably some kind of delicious beer! :)
