Quote
American novelist JD Salinger, author of classic 20th Century book The Catcher in the Rye, has died aged 91.

The reclusive writer died of natural causes at his home in the state of New Hampshire, his son said.

RIP

Am I the only one who read his other stuff, too?  I remember liking one novella or short story even more than Catcher in the Rye when I read it as a teen.

RIP JD  :\\\'(

I read Nine Stories and Franny and Zooey after the first time I read Catcher in school.  I was pretty obsessed with him back then.

We read Catcher in the Rye in 7th grade and it was one of those books that changed me and opened my eyes to a world of contemporary literature that made me the rebel I am today.  ;)

A big loss. RIP.

I've read all of his stuff - not that there's a huge amount of it. Like Stacey, I went through an obsessive Salinger phase. I think a lot of teens did that.

Very sad news.

I think I'm the only person on Earth who hated The Catcher in the Rye. :-\\\\

I am saddened about his death, though.  I always respected and admired his choice to live a private life.

RIP indeed.  Very sad news.  I was obsessed with Franny and Zooey when I was younger--never that fussed with Catcher in the Rye, tbh.  I think it was a bit too 'boy' book for me.

Loved Catcher in the Rye.. have bought at least four copies over the years, including a Japanese translation.

No disrespect intended, but this is a GREAT obituary:

Haha... I have a feeling the reclusive Salinger would've liked that obituary. I enjoyed his books, too. RIP.

RIP. I've only read Catcher in the Rye, and I thought it was great. Have to find the others mentioned in other's posts, though.
