Be prepared-have at least three packs laid in before you even open your baggie.

Edited to Add: By the way...it has been at least 12 years since I've had anything to do with what we're discussing.  This is just from memory.

Absinthe always fascinated me and a few weeks I got to try it for the first time when my friend's boyfriend brought some back from Eastern Europe.  I can't say too clearly how it was as I'd had a few drinks prior, but I think Elle hit the nail on the head when she said it does make you fuzzy headed.  It was no where as potent as shrooms or any other "high" other than a strong alcohol effect.

Hey sedders!  Which brand was it you tried?  Was it Hills?  And did you do the drip the water through the sugar spoon method or did you do the light the sugar on fire and mix it method?

Eww. I've never even heard of absinthe...but then I come from the infamous Bible belt where in my county the sale of even a beer is illegal. The effects don't sound nice, though!  ??? I believe I'll stick with my humble little bottle of white grenache. LOL

oooh, we just got back from France where we stayed in a gite that was next door to the Absinthe Museum.  Unfortunately, the museum was closed during the whole time we were there and we didn't get to see it!  It is located in Auvers-sur-Oise, the town where Vincent Van Gough spent the last 70 days of his life,,home of Dr Gauchet and an important area for the Impressionist movement, there's a great Impressionist Museum that traces the history of the artists and one part talks about the "over" indulgence of Absinthe.  I'd highly recommend the area!

I have never tried absinthe but I am told that Bar Gansa in Camden has it. I have tried the mushrooms a couple of times many years ago  (great for fancy dress parties!!) but did you know they can affect one's ovaries? (although mine seem to be in full operating order) And yes they are easily bought here in Camden and I have even seen them in Oxford St - they are legal here in their natural state, it is only when dried/proessed they become illegal.

I can't remember the brand, and I didn't do either method!  I didn't know the real absinthe was still available so part of me wondered if it was the real deal or just a take off on the idea. Now that I know it was the real thing I wish I could try it again.  We just drank "shots" of it since it was so powerful.  Do you know if it is legal to bring it back to the States as I'd love to have some to try the sugar method!

According to the EAbsinthe website they say they ship to the US all the time with no problems.  I'm guessing it would be ok to take a bottle through in your suitcase so long as you declared it at customs.

Wow I was wondering this not too long ago... I don't know why I didn't think to ask about it here. I definitely want to try absinthe... I think I need to go to my local Tesco and get me a bottle although I hear that the stuff in the UK isn't as potent as the kind they sell in Europe.

They actually serve it at student unions here. I haven't tried it yet, but it's definitely in the cards. [smiley=drunk.gif]
