which one is the best??
« on: February 02, 2010, 08:19:29 PM »
Just out of curiosity...(I have a newly single friend who loves Texas) which dating site seems to be the best for starting international relationships?

She's looking for an international guy?

I met mine on Facebook. Haha, not really a dating site and I definitely wasn't looking for anyone.

Ooops, sorry for the assumptions.

Can't say that I'd be much help, but good luck :)

I think (at least) one couple on this forum met through Match.com, I know quite a few couples have met through playing World of Warcraft either both parties playing on the European Server or the US Server.  You have to play on the same server to meet - they separate the game into regional servers and have been continuing to devolutionise the servers do to popularity.

A friend of mine met her husband through another forum due to work.  It was a political forum I believe.   :-\\\\

Nowadays it's so easy to meet people internationally it's just a matter of keeping an eye open rather than having to go searching IMO since there're so many social networking sites.

You said he already has friends in the area.  What about doing it the old-fashioned way and having one of them set him up?  That's how I met my boyfriend (though I hadn't asked for it; we have a mutual friend who can't help meddling). :)

My fiance and I met online. However, I cant imagine actively searching for someone not American. It would be so much easier if Daniel was an American, not that I would trade him for ANYTHING in the world.

I am in Texas, and middle-aged.  Has he checked Meetup.com for anything of interest in the area where he usually visits?

I agree! Tell him to save himself the heartbreak of constantly having to say goodbye at the airport! Hahaha.

But like others have said, it seems most people meet through some sort of common interest, and weren't actually looking for someone.  I feel like the best relationships start when you're least expecting them. At least that's what happened with me after trying again and again to push my DB away.  ::) silly me!

As a friend, I'd probably tell him to let his heart mend a bit before deciding to make such a commitment--it takes a LOT of work to be in an LDR, even if he's travelling to and from Texas often.

DB and I did this to eachother for 6 months! I'm very happy it didn't work. I'm the happiest I've ever been :)

I met my guy on Second Life, it's a virtual world, 3D chat sort of thing. There are people on there from all over the world. I certainly wasn't looking, but I definitely found.  :) It's good for a bit of a laugh anyway, if he wants to check it out, but it can be pretty time consuming just setting up an avatar.

A girl (woman now!) I grew up with met her now hubby through Second Life.  She's from the US and he's from the UK.  They live in the UK now.  They are both really really really into the whole Second Life thing.  :-\\\\

I'm not much of a help I guess since I met my British hubby the old-fashioned way--by travelling.

I would think though that pursuing what turns you on will lead to connections both friendship and romance--whether that means pursuing those things online or / and in person.
Met husband-to-be in Ireland July 2006
Married October 2007
Became a British citizen 21 July 2011
Separated from husband August 2014

I've had about 3 marriage proposals through Star Trek online, and I've only been playing it a couple of weeks  ;D

I know other people who met through World of Warcraft or IRC. There's a massive thread on Eurogamer forums where people discuss various dating sites, match.com seems to be winning, although mysinglefriend does well as well.

But I really second meetup.com, it's much easier to meet people as a coincidence of doing something you love :)
