Day dreaming.....
« on: February 03, 2010, 07:28:51 PM »
This is gonna sound pretty random, but, has anyone on the forum ever daydreamed about doing stuff to solve our UKY problems? Like, today, after reading a thread about GOYA products, I thought to myself, "Gosh, if only I could open up a shop that sold a wide variety of international food. Spanish food and ingredients, Filipino food and ingredients, etc. etc." When I was in the States I used to joke that I'd open up a Mexican restaurant in the UK. But, then I realised the cost of everything from rent, to up keep, etc. etc, and I thought, "Yup. Not gonna happen, I'm not rich, and it wouldn't fit in with the town." But, then I'm bummed because all of the things that I want, and that would make me feel more comfortable are....to a certain extent, unattainable.  :P

I dream about being a wedding planner/ event coordinator and opening a dress shop in the UK, but I don't think that that is a wide spread problem like the lack of Mexican food  :-\\\\ It's just my dream  ;D

LOL!!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

LOL!!

It's one of the things I miss most about the states. Sad, I know. Worst part is that I crave bean burritos something fierce.

I had actually once looked into doing a franchise but there's no way I could have done it.

Wow, I also dream about being a wedding planner/ event coordinator. But, I think of the licenses and all sorts that I'd have to pick up, and I get discouraged and leave it. I guess I just like having my hands into a bit of everything.

DH and I daydream about opening a Chick Fil A franchise.  ;D And a nice bakery / coffee shop type place. And a burger restaurant / takeaway (there is seriously NOWHERE to get a decent burger anywhere near where we live - besides at our house of course! It's truly depressing.) And we talked about Tex-Mex, but that's far too much trouble. So yeah...

I like this idea!

I sometimes daydream about there being a place like my old work here in the north of England.  A big natural food market with a supplement and body care section, a book section, a deli / cafe and bakery, organic and local produce, and a community room for talks and events on all sorts of healthy or alternative types of stuff for lectures, meditation groups, classes, taster sessions on different kinds of body work, etc.  *sigh*  But I don't actually want to open a place like that myself--I just wish somebody else would!  :D

Sounds like the co-op in Ocean Beach in San Diego. It was a nice place, always wish I had more time to spend there, because there was always such a good energy flowing thru it, but, the bus ride to and from there took ages, so, I couldn't go often enough! The Whole Foods near me did well enough, though. :D

I do miss it!  Now if a Whole Foods opened up in the north (I know there's one in London--too far away!) I'd be the first one in line to work there!

Lots of these places in Brighton! I loved Infinity Foods - http://www.infinityfoods.co.uk/

Have you ever been down to Brighton Andee?

You'd really love it, if you ever fancied a weekend away let me know and I'll tell you all the best places, from great vegan/veg fast food (redveg burgers - yum! http://www.redveg.com/) to where to get great falafel, and fresh veg (taj is an amazing exotic grocery store with the best fresh veg, pulses, spices and pre made veg food from a brilliant deli counter (curries, pakora, salads, olives etc.) - http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/taj-mahal-international-foods-Brighton ) and all the other good stuff in between (http://www.terreaterre.co.uk/ and oooh Bills - http://www.billsproducestore.co.uk/  :) )

That sounds amazing, cheesebiscuit!  I've never been, but maybe some day in the not too distant future--I'll let you know if / when we come down that way!

If we still lived there you could come stay :( I loved Brighton, and I ate much more on the pulses/veg side than I do now because there were so many great places to buy food and great restaurants.

I dream about breakfast at Bills sometimes :)

Wow, I also dream about being a wedding planner/ event coordinator.

I used to dream about that until I had to plan my own wedding. Never. Again.

My real dream is to open a bookshop. I'd have second-hand and new books, and also serve coffee and snacky things (just biscuits and scones, maybe). There would be lectures and talks, discussion groups, a book club, a Scrabble and/or Boggle club (or maybe just a games day once a month), story telling for children, etc. There'd be a big garden in the back and we'd have plant sales once in a while; and talks about plants in literature and about gardening in general. There would be picnic tables in the garden and a play area for children - so talks and lectures could be held outside when the weather was good. I'd like to have some cooking demonstrations indoors, as well. And maybe a local art sale once a year. And musical events once in a while too - like local musicians.

Ah, dreams.

I wish there was a Whole Foods up here in the North West!  :-\\\\ That would be brilliant, because then stuff that's defined in the UK as "exotic" would be more accessible and would make life....I don't know what the word would be....complete? And Chary, I've always wanted to open a bookshop/cafe/community hall type place like that, too. Too many ideas, not enough time and money.  :-X
