At the complex where I live there are designated parking spaces for each flat/house. By designated I mean the flat/house number is painted on the parking space.

Well... somebody is parked on mine!!!! luckily there was one visitor's spot free. But it is driving me crazy that someone is being so disrespectful!!

What can I do?? Is it a matter similar to somebody blocking a driveway? (A friend got a phonecall from the police when by mistake she parked infront of a driveway)

Is there something I can do???

Put a note on the car?

Report it to the complex manager with the reg plate number, it's their issue to resolve.

I wouldn't do anything unless it was happening on a regular basis.

My friend used to live in an apartment complex where spaces were designated by apartment, and if someone found your car in their spot they'd simply call to have it towed. They were veeery tow-happy there! It was a bit nuts.

I'd try to resolve it without resorting to towing - but if it starts happening on a regular basis, maybe you can have that car towed? That would certainly get them to think twice about it that's for sure.

I've had this happen to me.  Just leave a polite note pointing out that the spaces are designated - just in case they're a visitor and didn't realise.  If they're not then they know you're aware anyway.  If it keeps happening keep a record of dates/times etc and report to the complex manager.

If you happen to see them you could speak to them.  But if you're like me you'd rather avoid any possible confrontation unless you're very sure of the type of reaction you'll get.

If or when you write that note include their licence plate number and note the licence plate for yourself if you think this maybe ongoing. Putting down their number on the note can be intimidating.

I'd prolly ignore it if it was only once. As frustrating as it is.. If it keeps  happening with that particular or other cars I'd do what others have suggested Leave a note, write down the Reg number and I'd also take a quick photo of the cars reg plates showing it parked in your space on your mobile( assuming it has photo capabilities).

That's what I'd do too. If that person is anything like me, they probably just didn't notice the numbers; it could very well be just an innocent mistake. Make a note of the reg, though, so you can take it a bit further if they do it again.

I think it might have been a visitor as the car was moved later at night. I did leave a note on the windscreen.. and later found the note on the entrance door to my apartment building...

Hopefully it was just an innocent mistake...  thanks for all your advice!

I second (third?) leaving a note and then getting onto the building management if it needs to be dealt with officially.

A little story about how easy it is to innocently park in the wrong place.  A friend of mine used to live in a similar situation with numbered parking, he lived in, say, flat 11.  He was going mad because someone kept parking in his spot, number 11, so he had to use the visitor's space, he left notes and complained but got no satisfaction and management kept saying they'd checked the car-park and couldn't see anything wrong.  It turned out that the parking spots were numbered differently from the flats and his parking spot was number 3 or something and they guy in 11 had been parking in the right place all along!
