One Born Every Minute
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:51:47 PM »
Anyone watched this?

I want to see it but then I think I might be asking for trouble and end up freaking myself out.

I was hoping someone could tell me if it's worth having a look at or whether I should stay far far away.

Nevermind, I've just realised that the first episode is tonight. I don't know why I thought I had missed a few episodes.

I guess I'll watch and just have to turn it off if it becomes too much!

Will anyone else be watching?

From what I gather, they're birth stories.

My pregnant friend watched it and really liked it. She said it gave her a good idea of what to expect. It didn't seem to freak her out at all!

I loved it!!! It made me glad that I have a c-section booked for next wednesday! I cried throughout the whole show, probably because I am having a baby next wednesday...but I did really enjoy it! I set a series link to it, can't wait to watch it next week! I have a good friend who is a midwife and another who is a consultant OB...I think its a fantastic profession and I wish I had become a midwife!

I just watched it and I was the same, it wasn't scary to watch.

I felt awful for that woman Lisa with the baby who had his guts on his outside. Poor baby. I started to tear up when she first heard him cry. You could see how worried she was.

This show is a kind of birth control, but I can't stop watching!  ;D

Reminding me of all the times I have been a birthing partner and how amazing women are.

LOL

Yes, yes I did. Having never been in labour, I did keep thinking that it could really be that bad but I had a feeling that she just made it worse for herself.

Her story did teach me one thing, however: keep calm. Going into hysterics like she did wasn't good for anyone.

And her poor boyfriend. What a totally useless birthing partner. You felt bad for him but at the same time you wanted him to grow some balls and help her out, keep her calm. Thank god she had her mum there.

i'm addicted to birthing shows - and this one i rate so-so.  i like how 'normal' births are shown, not just 'emergey/life-death' situations.   it was really discouraging how unsupportive the birth partners were - i wanted to reach into the telly and strangle a few of them.  i've aksed my DH to watch, as an instruction manual on what NOT to do.

its crystalized my preference for a home birth, thats for sure.

Sorry, I really felt for that girl, and after my experience yesterday, I was pretty close to turning into her! Its easy to say you are going to stay calm, and completely another to do it when that gas and air hits you...oy vey!!! The only sensible thing I said to my husband when I had gas and air was that I felt like I was in a Prince song...
