Nope never applied for anything in the USA. We got married and went back to the USA a year later for just a visit. I hope everything goes well for you!

Songmistress, just so you don't get confused...the rules have changed since Pebbles got her spousal visa.  The only way to adjust status within the UK is if you get married while you're here on a visa good for more than 6 months.  Since you'll only be here on a visitor's visa (up to 6 months), you'll have to leave the UK to adjust your status.

Thank you, too, Lola.  Your experience was one of the first things I came across and read when I started searching for info on all this.  Ok, I am prepared to have to go back (and, like I said, Jamie has always wanted to see NY. And, personally, I would like him to see more of the States than just hot and humid ol' Florida anyway).  But, I can definitely get married HERE before I have to go back in October, right? 

Yes, you can get married here all you want (well, not exactly!)....but you definitely have to go back to the States to get your spousal visa!   

YAY!     This is such good news!  I will let everyone here know when the wedding is!   

Stacey, thanks again for the info.   So, I'm confused.  Did you have two marriage ceremonies?  One in the UK and then one in NY?

We did, the first in January was a registry wedding, with only four other people there.  We didn't want to consider that day the wedding day, but just the legal part.  Later in May we had a huge wedding with friends and family.  Funny thing is, we had a third party for all of Richards friends who could not come.  The second one was by far my favorite

Jamie and I told his mum last night that she would be able to come to our wedding because we can get married here, and we could tell that she is very happy about that.   So are we, of course!  See, she is still upset at Jamie's brother who "ran off" and got married and didn't tell anyone and then came into her house one day and announced, "Oh yeah, Mum, by the way, we got married."  She's never forgiven him for that.  Of course, Jamie and I are very anxious to get married.....but, it's nice - by getting married here - to be able to do something that will please his mother, too.
