Great meal out
« on: February 28, 2010, 06:43:54 PM »
I met up with some friends in Birmingham today. My oldest childhood friend from California, Stacy and her brother Donald came to the UK because they're travelling from NYC, to here to Germany and then to Ireland and then back to the States. We have a friend named Jennifer who lives in Birmingham, so, we all met up there. We had a nice lunch at Cafe Rouge. I had a  goat cheese salad, and penne pasta with smoked salmon, and passion fruit syllabub for afters. I was pleasantly surprised. Has anyone else had a good meal out as well?

I always mean to try Cafe Rouge!  Maybe I will try it soon!

I went to dinner at a friends house tonight and she made the most AWESOME roast lamb I have ever had from a Jamie Oliver Recipe. Does that count as a great meal out????

I think as long as you ate at a place that wasn't your home, and someone else did the cooking for you, that qualifies as a meal out. :D

I think I mentioned it in a different thread, but we had this fantastic Chinese lunch at a locally run restaurant on Saturday.  I had chicken stirfry with udon noodles in a satay sauce.  Soooo yummy.

Then the best meal out I've had in ages was when Mrs.R's and her hubby had us over for dinner not too long ago.  Mrs.R's hubby made an awesome curry and rice thing with home-made naan bread--stupendous!

Lately, any restaurants we've been to (not that we go out very often--we don't) have been disappointing.  For example, our favorite curry place in Bradford now disappoints me.  Everything just seems super oily and salty and so-so.  I feel my own curries and my hubby's curries are way better.

YESSS!  ;D

Hmm, the meal we went out for for our wedding anniversary disappointed, except for the puds. I'm hoping to arrange something soon out and maybe can report back!

There's a really great Tapas place near my old flat in Hammersmith, last time we went I got a really great thick soupy fabada which came packed with tasty morsels of bacon, chorizo and black pudding, some really fresh and crisp calamari (thin not greasy) with a homemade aioli, a gorgeous sweet potato with red pepper jelly sauce dish, and this garlic chicken which was crisp and lovely on the outside and really moist on the inside.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Aww, thanks!  I told him you said so, and he was grinning from ear to ear.  We don't go out to eat much because it is difficult to find something better than what we can make ourselves at home.  :)

Demuth's in Bath. It's an amaaaaazing veggie restaurant. I had lunch there twice in the past two days!  ;D

It usually comes in at or near the top of the list of Top Vegetarian Restaurants in the UK, but I'd find it hard to believe could be one that's better!

(I also had a meal at Jamie Oliver's Italian place. I would not classify that as a "great meal out.")  :-X

Sounds awesome!  I really want to get to Bath soon and will definitely check out Demuth's when I get there!

I could never get DH to go with me. He's allergic to the word 'vegetarian'.  :P

We haven't had a good meal out since we were in Spain a month ago and it's not because we haven't tried! It stinks to spend a lot of money on a very disappointing meal.  >:(

Is it a good cookbook? I've had it on my Amazon wish list for ages but I don't actually know if it's worth having or not.

Mine is too. That's why I like to travel with girlfriends.
