I think salt and ketchup would taste nice on french toast- as long as cinnamon and vanilla aren't put in with the eggs

Yeah, but there I'd say - why bother making French toast?  Just have your eggs and your toast, simple, but with hot sauce, not ketchup.  ;)

OMG - how about stuffed French toast - bit of cream cheese or mascarpone, some sweet fruit compote (think fruit pie filling), whipped cream...yummmmm!

I would kill for a Panera.  I want salads that don't have any mayo or pasta or possibly even meat.

You could make french toast soldiers to dip in ketchup  :)

Mmmm I love stuffed french toast. Or monte criscos. MMmmm

That's how we made it, just egg and bread since it was a compromise.  When you think about it, it's really not all that different from an egg breakfast sandwich, which many people usually have with salt, pepper, and ketchup.  But it's just not my idea of French toast. :P :)

Agreed - it's just eggy bread, with none of the magic (sugar!) that makes French toast - French toast!  :)

This thread makes me unbelievably hungry.  And yes, bacon (or sausage) and syrup is a MUST!

Well then that must mean not a single person in the UK does...

I didn't say that nobody eats English breakfasts every day. I said that I didn't know anybody who did.

Just as I never knew anybody in America who ate pancakes or french toast for breakfast every day.

Most people I know usually gobble something down then rush out the door.

I miss salad bars. I really don't like sandwiches that much. I like being able to put whatever I want into a salad.

Me and you both! I miss the nice salad bars like they have at the Western Sizzlin....

Crisp sandwiches?  My husband would LOVE those!  I'm surprised he's never thought of it before.  He eats at least three of those small bags a day, sometimes more.  And yet his cholesterol levels are just fine.  How does he do it?    :-\\\\

It says you are in Yorkshire, so I assume your husband is a Yorkshireman and you say he's never tried it! Ask him - it was more a thing when we were kids

If it's not got sweet stuff  on though it's what we call eggy bread so, yep, ketchup on it!

Our refurbed Morrisons now has a salad bar, which surprised me!  Maybe they are going to catch on here too.  That said, while I used to like salad bars and buffets & that sort of thing, I tend to kind of be put off by them now.  Just thinking of the food being sat there for who knows how long, open to everything & everyone... [smiley=bleck.gif]

I'd rather make my own!  :)

We used to put crisps in our sandwiches as kids, but more like a fixing than the main ingredient.

I wouldn't want a chip buttie for lunch.  It's more like a late night and/or post drinking thing.  Very stodgey, but very good.

I'm not a fan of chip butties but only because I don't like the big chips they have here. I prefer little shoestring fries.

Eggy bread spread with marmite is delicious (just to be really provocative)! My brothers used to eat peanut butter and golden syrup on bread when we were kids.
