Can I bring snacks on flight?
« on: March 17, 2010, 05:47:39 PM »
Hey!

I don't know where to post this question and so I post it here.

My question is...

I got snacks, some packaged chocolate bars, snacks like sweets but mostly chocolate with nuts or cookies that I want to bring on flight with me.  I put them all in a small paper bag shopping bag.  10-20 snacks inside this bag.  I want to ask if there is any problem with bring such items with me instead of putting them in my check-in luggage?  Because it's chocolate, I worry it might melt, crush or something while in the luggage.  So I want to bring it with me.  Would there be any problems?  I assume that there won't be because people can buy stuff while at the airports.  I am not eating the snacks on flight thought.  Just want to know if it's OK to bring them.  Is there a limit to how much I can bring in terms of food goods?  I checked the airline site but still clueless.

Thanks

My husband is a Airport Duty Officer and I showed him your question and he said he didn't think that would be a problem but then again it's down to the individual airports and also airlines.

The major issues are with liquids and gasses...

I'd just pop it into your carry-on luggage and forget about it. I doubt you'll have problems but like MeShell says, it depends on the airports and also who is searching your bag when you go through security.

Saying that, however, I usually have a packet of chips or a biscuit or something in my bags when traveling and I've never had a problem.

As the other said, I'd assume it all depends on the airport, airline and security.  Having said that, I've flown back and forth with several different airlines and different airports and I always bring A LOT of snacks (as in...a minimum of 4 or 5 different bags of things) and I've never had any problems at all.  I was peeved when I had to toss out an almost completely full bottle of juice...and buy another one 10 feet later to take on the airplane with me.

I always pack lunches for my kids on flights because you never know if they are going to like the kids meals and they do get hungry quite a lot and no one has ever said anything to me for years so far.  ;D
