Using NEW U.S. Passport to enter U.K.?
« on: March 18, 2010, 01:30:47 AM »
I read that some countries won't let you in if your passport is less than 6 months old. My mom just got a passport expedited for me so that we could go to London together in April, which would make her passport newer than 6 months. If anyone knows for sure or can give me some advice I'd greatly appreciate. We were planning to buy flight tickets this morning, but now we have to hold till this is figured out.

Thank you!

I just went to Spain in Feb with a passport issued about 6 weeks prior. The issue you may have confused is they may not let you in if the passport has less than six months LEFT on it. You will be fine. :)

Where did you read this?  I don't think this is a problem.  Both my husband and I entered the UK on passports that were less than six months old.

My passport was about two weeks old when I entered.

As Gotta said the problem is if you only have six months LEFT.

Think about it, why would anyone ever expedite if you couldn't use a passport for 6 months?

I think that you're getting this confused with a passport that has less than 6 months remaining on it before it will expire not that the passport can't be less than 6 months old...you're not reading it correctly.

I entered the UK on a passport that was less than two weeks old...not a problem.

Most people only initially get a passport when they are needing one- can't imagine they would need to plan that out six months in advance always! I am sure you are confused on this one, would be interesting to see where you have read it.

i have to agree with the others on here.......mine wasnt 6 months old......plus you can pay the extra dollars and get the process completed quickly in case you need to travel right away.

I've travelled many times on a spanking new passport with zero problems.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.
