oooook, one little lst question before I gooo..
« on: August 12, 2004, 04:25:53 AM »
??? well i'm off to get married and apply for y visa everyone!! Tuesday is the day for my visa, we needed no appointment, thank god, because we couldn't get through when we did try to call anyhow.....buuuuut
here's the deal, he's got his account in overdraft!!!  :-\\\\ and his bankslips all show his account going from in the clear, to overdrawn..and back n forth and so on and so forth....even though the bankslips show that, he has his records for his employment, showing he is working etc, and I have a good amount in my savings, so are we going to be ok as far as the means of supporting my son and I until I get a job thingie goes? or am I basically screwed now and shouldn't even bother trying for my visa at this point????
AAAHHHHHHHHH someone help me before I go nuts!!!!

There's no magic amount they're looking for.  Can your savings coupled with his monthly income get you through the next 2-3 months?  If so, you should be fine.  They're just wanting to make sure that he has an income sufficient to support you--he doesn't need £500000 in the bank.

When my DH and I applied for my visa, I think he had around £3000 in the bank and I had about $8000.  Certainly not enough to get us through a year, but enough to get us through several months (plus his monthly income could be considered).  There are several people on the site who've said they had "next to nothing" when they applied, so you should be fine.  They really are looking for an overall picture...not just your CURRENT bank balances.

Good luck!   ;D ;D ;D  (And happy wedding!)

Aacchhoo, are you going to look for work (can't recall previous posts)? If so, maybe you could also bring along a CV or something to show that you're employable as well. If I haven't found a part-time job yet by the time we do this, that's my plan....

Good luck and congratulations! I hope all goes well - keep us up on the goings on!!! :D

Very true, that's what I'm doing Anne. I'm sending them a copy of my resume to show that I am employable and that I have done various jobs over the last few years so I am seasoned in most aspects with a focus on Customer Service of course.

Good luck aacchhoo and congrats on your wedding hun!!

*hugs*

When I went for my visas they were mainly concerned with his payslips, and seeing how much he made, and while they looked at the bank statements they didn't seem to be too fussed about how he managed his money. He didn't have a lot in it at the time, but his payslips proved that he made enough to support us through the eyar so they were pleased. Also - you can explain this to them as well, they are generally nice people, and understand that people aren't perfect - and that bank overdraughts are there for a reason and get used... hope that helps!

Bank overdrafts aren't the huge thing in the UK that they are in the US.  He'll have an agreed overdraft limit with his bank, that the bank will be happy with as long as he has a regular income going into the account.  That's the main thing they'll be looking at, whether or not there is a regular income.

ok, technically for the british it is monday, I'm getting married at 3pm my time 8pm urs :) yayyyy
yes he has income being deposited on a regular basis, PLUS I've already been in touch with a company over there who has my CV and are considering me for employment, (they had offered me a job up front, but then lost my CV..go figure..) and I have my CV with all my other paperwork.
In my savings I have nigh on about $3k, and I'm taking $2500 in travelers checks, so I've virtually got about $5500.
hmmm...guess there's really no time to worry about it now...lol....
wish me luck everyone, I'm gonna need it!!!
thanks, and I'll let everyone know how it went on Thursday!!!!
