Breech/Oversized Baby

From what I understand, in the UK you don't have any scans after your 20 week anomaly scan unless you have some kind of complications or medical issue.  How does the midwife know if the baby is breech or overweight without a scan?  Can they tell by feeling your belly?  I was high risk with my daughter so I had an ultrasound every week for last 16 weeks of my pregnancy so I wasn't sure how they handled things for normal, healthy pregnancies here in the UK.

If they suspect there is an issue I am sure they will do a scan. But they can tell both size and position by feeling. I don't think they would be concerned with size unless the baby seems exceptionally large. They estimated my son would be over 9 lbs and he was less than 7.

In the US, you don't necessarily have scans either unless they're required as in your case.  I am 27 weeks now and I don't think I'm getting any more sonograms at all (my last one was my 18 week scan).

They can feel if the head is engaged, or where the bum and back are, and they will indeed to more scans if they feel your baby is breech. My baby was breech, not breech and breech once again before I had her by section, I had many scans to confirm this.

Yeah, they thought Jake was breech at one point just by feeling my belly. I had a scan and he wasn't.

I'm not sure what the 'normal' procedure is in the UK, but each time I went to clinic at the hospital I had a scan...not sure why but they did find that DD was breech and due to some blood pressure issues we even had a specialist scan as they were concerned that she wasn't growing well enough..which all were normal. I ended up having 6 scans on the NHS and a scan as a private patient in the UK and another that a friend did in the US (he's an ultrasound tech and we snuck into the hospital so my parents could see their grandchild  )...so I had 8 scans in total from 20 wks to delivery.
