Boston to London ticket includes taxes...
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:24:49 PM »
Im from the UK and if I wanted to buy a ticket from London to Boston it would be for example £380, with all taxes included. Return

Now, if I wanted to buy a ticket from Boston to London it would be £380 + taxes which comes to around £560. return

Is there any way since im from the UK, buy this ticket using the english price? Or do I have to because its coming from the US to UK I have to pay the taxes.

If this is the case, then why dont I pay taxes on the return flight when buying the UK to US?

Hi there,

Not sure at all of what you mean...

If you are in the UK, using an English section of the usual big online comparison sites, you'll see the price listed and it'll also show you the taxes amount etc.

If you then go to a USA section of a similar website you'll find prices listed there. You may have to click forward to get the amount of taxes to be added. You can go to a US website, get quoted for a flight from and to wherever you want.

The usual tricks apply, keep checking different sites, and different times of the day to see how prices and availability changes. If a deal comes up at a price that's good, its your risk to either accept and book there or to try and see if a better deal comes up later.

No matter which country you are in, you'll pay the taxes accordingly, even if you end up booking from the UK for a flight that originates and returns to an airport in the US and vice versa.

Cheers, DtM ! West London & Slough UK!

I'm glad you cleared that up because I was thinking that there was no government fees in the UK when you bought there. That was based on the previous posting.

It just seems it is cheaper going UK to US than the other way around for some reason. I have done research on this and found it to be true! There is something the airlines are charging us this side of the world, that they don't pay in the UK but I don't know what it is!

Where are you finding cheaper tickets to the US from the UK? Would love to know  :P

In my experience, it's always been cheaper US to UK.

BF used Expedia this time. He also uses Opodo.com a lot. They often book him on different airlines for each leg, but it's so much cheaper. He's paid about £410 all incl. for a return (RT) London-Atl in June/July (high season even!). I looked at the same trip, but in reverse and found prices more like $1200+!!! I checked several places and found the same thing. He came here back in Feb/Mar because it was also half the price for him to come visit than for me to go over there.

That has been my experience too, though in recent years the prices are closer than they used to be. I remember when it would be almost double for a flight from UK to US than for the same flight US to UK, for my area. I guess that's because I live in the middle of nowhere, and it's apparently not a big travel destination?!
