London to LA

Hey guys - as it's not my normal trip, but rather for something I'm trying to price out to see if it's remotely reasonable:  what would a typical London-LA fare be in August?  I know, higher because of the summer, and higher of course because of the length of the trip - but I don't really know what I should be benchmarking my searches against.  Any ideas?

Best thing to do is just shop around.  Prices could be a lot different from last year so it's hard to guess.  For example...my roundtrip tickets from VA to Manchester in July last year were about $800 or so.  My mom has looked at the same flights for the same time frame this year and they are running around $1200.

I know this doesn't help at all but the flights for me and my 6-year-old to Washington next Monday were £850.

Woah.. £850 POUNDS?

Yeah that's for 1 adult and 1 child...and includes taxes.  I booked the flights about 6 weeks ahead of time and got a pretty good discount by choosing to fly into Munich first and opting for a DC instead of my hometown (which means I have a 4hr car ride home after I land)...also by playing with the days (was over £200 cheaper to fly on Monday instead of Tuesday, etc.).  The cheapest, most direct flights I could find into my hometown were £1250 (total for 2)...so I decided to suffer with a longer, more inconvenient trip to save £400.

I used to fly NY to LA alot and that trip is 300 to 400 rt. My advice...if you can, buy it now. Relatively speaking August isn't that far away...prices will start to skyrocket soon.

We flew from LHR to LAX at the end of February for 1365 gbp round trip for 2 adults and a child. The prices went up to 800 gbp per person the next day. Hope that helps!
