I find when it comes to eggs, meat and veggies that shopping local saves us quite a bit of money. We buy our meat direct from farmers and in bulk and it is alot of money out right, but in the long run it works out much cheaper than popping to Waitrose or Sainsburys. Then I go to green grocers which usually have better quality, local produce for much cheaper than the supermarket.
Clothing wise Ive still not found a decently priced store with good quality clothes here. It seems very much "you get what you pay for" attitude, but even then quality isn't brilliant.
Another good site for freebies or second hand things cheap is Netmums. You can pick up some good bargains on there, and alot of local businesses will give discounts if you mention finding them through the site.
