Mestizo restaurant (London)
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:25:43 AM »
Has anyone else been to Mestizo lately? We were there just over a week ago and had such a bad time I'm determinned not to go back. Our waitress was just awful. She messed up our order and when we told her she'd brought the wrong dish, she started arguing with us about it and went on arguing and saying we had ordered wrongly. Eventually it got sorted out and she brought the right food and then when we said thank you, she started arguing with us again! I mean who argues when someone says thank you??!! Unbelievable! It ruined our meal really. I sent an email to Mestizo the next day, but over a week has gone by now and they haven't responded. I'm just really disappointed as we've had no problem there before and the food is great but I'm damned if I'm going to pay good money to be spoken to like that again.

That's why I'm so disappointed, because we've always had a good time there before and it's definitely the most authentic Mexican restaurant in the UK. Their burrito place (El Burrito) is great too. This experience really spoiled it for us though, I used to recommend Mestizo to everyone but I won't any more. I just went onto a couple of restaurant review sites and a few other people had left recent comments about a rude waitress, think it must be the same one. It's a big shame.

BTW if anyone is in the Reading area, the Mexican Mission Grill behind the Oracle shopping centre is awesome!

Shahbanou, have you tried Green & Red in Shoreditch? I personally rate them on a level footing with Mestizo (and I have zero patience for crappy Text-Mex places pretending to be Mexican - these two are good!).

I can't knock the service and even though the younger girl there is not the best in English I love the atmosphere and the food. It tends to be the only place I go in London seeing I am more of a authentic fan than california or tex mex.

If we're talking about the same person, no her English is not great, but my husband spoke to her in Spanish and even after that she continued to argue. The food is authentic, no doubt about it, but there's no excuse for rudeness - she clearly hasn't had any service training.

Squirellypoo - thanks for the reminder about Green & Red, I haven't actually been there myself but have heard a lot of good things about it - will definitely have to check it out.
