Visa4Uk form
« on: March 30, 2010, 09:48:25 PM »
My girlfriend is just filling out the visa4UK form to get what I think is called entry clearance to make her entry to the UK easier.

Its on this website  http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx

I was just wondering if there is anything we should know and how long it takes to go through?

She is planning on returning with me for just less than 6 months. Will we face any problems?

Thanks

To help folks answer your question you should probably post a little more info:

1. what is the nationality of the GF?
2. What is the purpose of her visit?
3. Why an entry clearance is necessary in your mind?

Most visitors to the UK from the US can travel on the "visa waiver" program which means they don't have to apply ahead. This is because the person will not be working and will return home before the waiver period has ended.

Good luck!

If you're worried that they will turn her away because she's going to stay for such a long period then I don't think it hurts to apply for a visitor visa ahead of time.  There shouldn't be an issue so long as she can show that she's going to return and they believe her.  There's a lot of advice on here about what kinds of info to have when visiting boyfriends/girlfriends in the UK - if you do a search for that you can see the kind of information that she may want to have available when you travel.  Basically information that shows that she has ties to the US (bank accounts, storage rental, a job that she'll return to, etc.)

Good luck! Hopefully someone with more detailed info will come along soon...

Thanks for the info, just wondering where do we get a visitors visa ahead of time and does it cost?

I imagine its similar to the ESTA thing I had to do when I can over to the US, but I cant find the equivilant.

Here is a link to visa fees:

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/visafees/

They'll be updated April 6, 2010.

This one?

Single, double and multiple visit, valid up to 6 months.  £67

Here's a link to different types of visas.

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/vafs/

Perhaps general visitor?

You posted the correct link to the application in your original post. She needs to complete the application, pay the fee, complete her biometrics, and send off her application to the correct consulate. If she does not use an expeditor, it can take weeks or months. An expeditor can usually get it done in a couple days.
