Depression Reading Group?
« on: August 12, 2004, 10:44:27 PM »
Is anyone interested in a group that talks about books on depression? I've just finished Prozac Nation and David Karp's Speaking of Sadness: Depression, Disconnection, and the Meanings of Illness and am curious what other people are reading/thinking.

I'm not sure if a full on depression book group would be a good idea for me personally, but I just started 'Prozac Nation' and it'd be great to discuss that once I've finished. I'll post back when I'm done reading it and see if you're still interested.

I'm not sure on the other titles -- but have you read "Wasted" by Marya Hornbacher?

FInished the book. Was actually glad that I'd picked it up at the charity shop. It was difficult for me to begin but then  I had a hard time putting it down. NOt sure what you want to discuss - are you a professional in the field? I'm a patient. I identified readily with Elizabeth. Mine was (or has not yet been - I still battle) never that clinical, and not something I'd really like to discuss openly on a forum like this, but it shaded how I reacted to the book.
