Olympics

So the 2004 Summer Olympics begin later today (or tomorrow for some of us in the states).  I read that over the course of the 2 weeks, it's expected that more than 4 BILLION people will tune in at some point.  Any favorite sports?  Anyone to watch for? 

It's a shame being back in America, most of it will be delayed several hours or even days.  I think I'd be more excited if I knew I was watching it live.   Might've even made a slight attempt to attend if I was still in the UK.

Actually, I was saying last night that it's a shame I'm NOT in America for the Olympics! I love watching them, especially the summer, and especially divind and gymnastics. The only coverage it seems I can get here though is the nightly "roundup" on BBC, which hopefully won't be too bad - - - but the UK doesn't seem as nutty about the Olympics as the US does. 

Although did you notive that team USA was the only one who didn't bring and wave flags during the opening ceremony? Apparently, they were told to be discreet over security concerns.

No I didn't notice that, but I did notice the guy that happily screamed "Whats up Greece Yo" - or something similar - to one of the cameras. Made me laugh.

Oh - and I was wrong: there is more coverage than I expected.

Philip seems to enjoy them as well. He certainly liked the opening ceremony! Or maybe he just liked his mommy jumping up and down in the room singing "The Olympics are here! The Olympics are here!"

The opening ceremony was WAY cooler than Syndey's or Atlanta's.

Actually they were not the only country.  Some countries did and some countries did not.  Italy didn't, Japan didn't as well of majority of the African nations didn't.  There actually were quite a few who didn't.  I was looking at that specifically because of what the U.S.I.O.C. told the althletes to keep a "low profile" which I think it totally f'ed up since these althletes train so hard all of their lives and should have the right to celebrate instead of keeping a "low profile".  We'll see how it goes in the coming weeks.

Glen and I are actually going to be there for our anniversary and my all time favorite is scheduled for one of the weeks were there.  Gymnastics!!  I'm  thinking of checking out the flights from Crete to Athens while we're there since a majority of the seats are not sold out and are soooo cheap.

ABSOLUTELY WE DID!!  It was Dawn Staley from the WNBA!

Ugh.. anyone hear about the Paul Hamm result?   I watched him win it.. and it was FANTASTIC.. now it must feel tarnished a bit.
