Good on Willie Walsh CEO of British Airways for being a Renegade and sending 26 flights into British Airspace...it was a gamble but looks like it paid off. Happy Travels everyone :)

I'm sure his actions weren't selfless...airlines were losing hundreds of thousands per day they were unable to fly and BA is already suffering financially....

I am not nominating him for Saint Hood.... Quite honestly, I really don't care if his actions were selfless or not - my DF is arriving tomorrow, and friends on here were able to get to their loved ones and that is what matters.

And I think because BA is in a financial mess, he chose to gamble and I think that is awesome.

:)

Good luck!

Thanks!  I am back in London, showered and feeling human.  No more pizza for a while, that's for sure!

Anyone on the forum flying out soon...next week maybe?  I am super-scared!  Trying to book for Monday and the whole US and internet news is probably half of what you guys are getting in the UK.

I'm reading that conditions with the wind directions should have a majority of the ash cleared out by the weekend.

I'm glad to see everyone is making their way home safely!  I know this is just an extended vacation for some people but it was a real nightmare for many.

Maybe the airline I flew with will now get off their butts and get my luggage to me!!  *sigh*

They were giggling at work today about some of the people who got 'rescued' by the British Navy and sailed home on the naval ships - saying it was the best part of their holiday:  3 free meals a day, free accommodation, an interesting side adventure, and men in uniform.  :D  We all started singing In the Navy!  Lol!

My husband was finally able to fly home yesterday ,after being stuck in Stockholm since the volcano erupted. He flew SAS .Many of their flights were still being cancelled.

I am supposed to fly home to the US on Tuesday .I have to admit ,the thought of flying now is making me kind of nervous.

We are still stuck but realize we are lucky to be where we are...Still isnt fun as I want to go home too and honestly I need to get these 2 kids back to their mom as its scratching on my nerves (yeah another topic somewhere when I can type more).

We found out TC flys once a week from newcastle to antyala SO technically we could be here till Tuesday (god help me) but in reality I think they will get us elsewhere and then BUS us with 2 kids home (another oh my god moment).

Maybe I can just keep drinking those Bacardi and cokes

I'm glad to see everyone is making their way home safely!  I know this is just an extended vacation for some people but it was a real nightmare for many.

Yeah, we were pretty lucky with our situation -- no medical emergencies, no special needs, no unhappy small children -- we had a nice enough hotel with beds and showers and access to enough money to make alternate plans.  But even still, it was quite an ordeal and incredibly stressful.  It wasn't hard to imagine that if any of the above circumstances (nevermind all of them combined!  Yikes!) were a factor, things could and would have been very unpleasant.  Even in situations that weren't terrible, the stress and anxiety was still pretty rough going.

I am so freaking glad to be home, although I'm still a little nervous that my dad flies back to the US tomorrow.  I'll be relieved when he gets there and is home safe and sound.

As a stepmom, I can feel your pain right now. And it definitely hurts! Hope you get to come home soon, Jenn!  :-\\\\ :-*

Not exactly the same but remember September 11th? when all aircraft in the US were grounded. Things happen and I feel sorry for people when we have leaned to count on things and then "zip" the rules are changed.
