US TAX refund, where to cash a check

Just wondering where could I cash my tax refund in the UK???

Your UK bank should be able to do it.

It might take a while for the cheque to clear, and you might pay a foreign transaction fee, though.

Yeah, I paid a US dollar cheque into my Natwest account a couple of years ago - I had to pay about £10 to do it (because it was a foreign cheque) and was told it could take up to 28 days to clear. However, the money appeared in my account within a week or so :).

Some piece of the refund might be taxable by the UK if remitted to the UK.

That's what I did, even though I'm not American and have no plans to live over there again. My 2008 tax refund was paid directly into my US account and then I used the money to part-fund my trip to South America earlier this year :).

Please could you (or anyone else) elaborate on what parts of the tax refund might be taxable by the UK? Would the additional child tax credit be included?
