Health Insurance
« on: May 06, 2010, 04:08:45 AM »
Hi all,

I just recently got approved for a Tier 1 Visa and will soon be leaving my job in the US to move to London to be with my girlfriend.  I will be looking for a job once I settle in over there and wanted to know want kind of coverage I would have (if any) upon arrival under my Visa.  What steps should I be taking in order to make sure I'm insured in case I were to have any medical issues prior to being employed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, I love this web-site!!

Morning,

it is my understanding that as you are not on a visitors visa you are entitled to nhs treatment from day one. There was another thread on this I remember reading, but I'm on my phone and can't copy links so hopefully someone else will be able to.

I believe if you are on Tier 1 you can't access the NHS until you have found a job.  But before you freak out that might have been an idea they were floating as opposed to something they put into affect.

have they changed this recently? I seem to remember that you had to show you were here with the intention of working, and the visa was evidence of that intention.

I'm sorry if my previous response was wrong!

Thanks for all the info! I did a quick read and will have to go through it all again very slowly  as there is a lot of contradicting messages   :o
