Oh I need that..Stuff from the US...
« on: May 16, 2010, 02:36:09 PM »
So as you start to live in the UK do you find yourself saying, "Oh I need that!" Then find out you cant find it?
Maybe someone will know if it is named different or whatnot...

I am creating a list of a few things that I would like and maybe you know them as something different!

What do you find yourself saying you "need" and this isnt really a food item as I know we have a thread for that ;-)

Mine:
Magic Erasers
Those fabric sheets - so I can wash all colors together when its a small load
THICKER aluminum foil

;-) its a good start

Your first two were actually on my "must haves" list as well.  You can get the magic erasers here under a different brand "JML" and they are at Robert Dyas.

The color catchers are available here but are really expensive.  I still bring these from the US as well.

All of those are on my must have list too. I can add:

Deodorant (dont like it here and it gives me a rash)
Sink Disposal
Swiffer WetJet
409 (Nothing here seems to work nearly as well IMO)
Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner

Okay...

Ranch dressing
Nestle chocolate chips
Woolite
Lubriderm lotion

I know there is more, but that's on my list to bring home from my next trip to US.

For thicker aluminum foil, you could try Bacofoil (it says thick aluminum foil on the box). I haven't had any complaints with it, but then again, I'm not too picky about my tin foil.  ;)

What is Sink Disposal?

MrsRupert, did you know Woolite is available in the UK?

Swiffer WetJet

I never used a Swiffer in the US, but over here I use a Flash Power mop and I think it might be similar, though I'm not 100% sure.

THICKER aluminum foil

Tesco does extra thick foil, which I find more than adequate. Bacofoil's nonstick roasting foil is also very good. Have you not seen either of those?

Yes, I always buy Woolite.

As I stated before, JML is the brand that does magic erasers.  Robert Dyas is the store where you can purchase these.  They are probably available elsewhere too but this is the only place I have ever seen them.

Not sure where you are but if you have just moved here, you may really like Robert Dyas. I used to tease my BF about going to Robert Dyas like every weekend and now I do!!
They do all kinds of home essentials and also DIY stuff.

I wish I had a Swifer Wet Jet as the only non-carpeted room is the kitchen.  I may get one when I go back next time.

I've started seeing ranch dressing at Sainsbury's.  also, my sister found me this: http://www.budget101.com/recipes/id256.htm since she's not gotten around to sending my packets.

A lot of my must haves are now available here.  Kool-aid can be purchased at Tesco and Afro-Caribean stores (never have liked squash, just weird)

Seriously?  I think my sister is holding them hostage until I post her Harry Potter book and car keys to her lol.

Is this the Magic Eraser you are looking for?

Amazon also sells another one about £1 cheaper:
