We are facing this possibility with my husband only the other way around. They want him to go to the US for some time (not sure about all the details, he will be in a meeting about it next week). They probably can't book a plane ticket two years in advance, but I think we will want a guarantee in writing that we will be expecting to move back to the UK after two years, possibly with some sort of (by this date) thing, and we will have set out in writing exactly what we expect them to pay for and provide as part of this move. I'm not sure if they will give you just money for the plane ticket but if they did that would give you more freedom on what flights you want to take and get in writing by what date you would expect to receive that money. Basically, get a contract between you and the company drawn up, like you are accepting a new position because you are, it's in a new country and have it be as specific as possible about when you go, when you come back, who pays for what, and that any details could not be changed without discussion with you (which is often the case anyway, but make sure). My previous employer would often issue new contracts to people going overseas to work for another division which included many of these details.
Good luck!!
